Feedback differences on Ebay
How do you differentiate between a positive, neutral and a negative on Ebay? Lately, I have have ordered multiple items on the same day, only to have some items arrive within 3-4 days and others arrive 7-10 days later. Technically, they both are positive feedbacks, but I find myself looking to give a neutral to the other seller. How else can you separate the best sellers from the average ones? In my example, obviously one was better than the other.
Or do you just use the sub-ratings that Ebay provides? Curious minds want to know. :)

I use the sub-ratings quite a bit. I don't want to give a negative unless the overall esperience was just straight up terrible. I rate the shipping time and also the shipping cost if they charge a high amt and then send something like a card in a PWE and you know shipping and related personal cost in no way cost $5. I don't give them a terrible rating on the shipping cost because in the end, that's what I agreed to when I bid. Some sellers don't put much effort into shipping items securely and safely so you get them in the best condition possible and that has to somehow reflect in the subratings or be reflected by giving a neutral. I think the new feedback system will allow most buyers to give more honest feedback since there will be no fear of retaliatory feedbacks

There are things to take into consideration when it comes to shipping/delivery time. Where are they shipping from? What shipping method(s) are they offering/using? Is there anything in their listing about shipping times? Plus you have to factor in that sometimes the mail can be really fast, really slow or regular. I've sent stuff across the same state that took longer to be delivered than something I sent to the other side of the US. And you never know how long it'll take when dealing with people outside the US.

Like the others have said, I think the sub-ratings are the best way to gauge a sellers shipping practices. Unfortunately some of the shipping time is out of the sellers control. I know I recently sent three packages across country on the same day, two of which were to the same address in an out of the way town. The third package was to a major city about 50 miles from the others. All three packages arrived on different days, the major city one taking the longest to arrive. Having negative or neutral feedback given because one package took longer than the others doesn't seem right.

I agree that shipping can be out of the seller's control. I do look at the postage date to make this judgment. I agree on the sub-ratings, but most people just look at the number of negatives to judge a seller.

I do usually only use the subratings as well, but that is a good point. I don't look at the subratings of a seller very often, only the negatives or neutrals.
But I'm like stewart20rulz, I will only leave a negative if the transaction was straight up terrible. It's taken 2-3 weeks to get things before or I pay $4 for shipping and get a card in a PWE...but unless something is damaged and they won't make amends or not received at all, I won't leave a negative.
