    SPA nameplate autos

Is it just me or is the selection of names in this set the weekest you have ever seen. Any other SPA product out there(baseball, hockey, basketball) at least have players i have heard. Curious how many people has been put off with the selection.

personally I love it, I;ve been waiting for autos of my guys like Matt light, Heath evans and Ty warren in their own uniforms for years now. I Guess if you're a RC guy its pretty bad, but for team collectors it has a lot of benifits

I'm not a fan of the By The Letters that have letters that aren't even in the players last name. I get the point that it's the team name, but still. Not really a fan of that way of doing things. I mean, a "P" for Hornung? I get that it's the Packers but just don't like it. Just my $.02

Personally I hate the idea of these cards, yeah, they look cool, and I own a couple, but I reallt only like the "TRUE" lettermans, which are letters cut off of the jersey that the player actually wore. These fake "letter" cards are just flooding the market now, and they aren't even real game used autos.

But, I already got a Matt Light, and plan on getting the Heath Evans, because it's their only auto in a Pats Uniform. BTW loflo, Warren has plenty of auto's in a Pats uni, in fact I have an extra one I could trade if you want.

Honestly, if you look at the list, the selection of names in this set is the BIGGEST you have ever seen. It's just, the pulls so far haven't been tremendous. I bolded some of the HUGE pulls. Now, you are correct, the ratio of Favre/Montana/Namath/Bush to Schobel/Light/Ngata/Brooking/etc is probably like 1:100 but still, there ARE some amazing ones out there! Check this out, from the UD Checklist:

2007 SPA By The Letter Autographs:
    Anquan Boldin
    Aaron Schobel
    Brett Favre
    Bo Jackson

    Reggie Brown
    Barry Sanders
    Champ Bailey
    Chris Cooley
    Roger Craig
    Carnell Williams
    Drew Brees

    DeMarcus Ware
    Emmitt Smith
    Frank Gore

    Heath Evans
    Haloti Ngata
    Joseph Addai
    Jason Campbell
    Joe Montana
    Joe Namath

    Jeremiah Trotter
    Keith Brooking
    Lee Evans
    Larry Johnson
    LaDainian Tomlinson
    Matt Leinart

These fake "letter" cards are just flooding the market now

That's my main problem...the lettermen cards, the manufactured patches in Leaf R&S...they all look really nice, but I think it's bad for the hobby. But that's what Upper Deck and Playoff do (I don't think Topps is quite so bad for this), they find something people like and vastly overproduce it. Instead of keeping them rare and highly collectible, they put so many out there that it kills the value and collecting.

Up until a couple of days ago, I was really excited about SPA...then you see the breaks and it's starting to look a lot like the Contenders....a nice product with a history of good value, but the only thing you pull are people you've never heard of. I think the really high end cards (patches, GU autos, lettermen, whatever) should only be of the really high end players...No offense to his fans, but how excited are you going to be when you pull a Nick Mangold Letterman?

i agree with the fake letterman idea and how ive gotten tired of it...

i swear it's in at least 4 brands this year...its old...and boring...and now its getting the point like these SPA ones, where they are doing letters of the team name and not even the players name. i'm ready for something else...
