Troy Williamson to be dealt to Jags

    WILLIAMSON HEADING TO JACKSONVILLE

Three years ago, a receiver with hands of stone was drafted by a coach with a head of meat.

As it turns out, they'll be reunited soon.

Sean Jensen of the St. Paul Pioneer Press reports that the Vikings have reached an agreement in principle to trade receiver Troy Williamson to the Jags for a second-day pick in the draft.

"Second-day" used to mean rounds four through seven. Now, round three is included. Our guess is that the Vikings will get a fifth-round pick that can upgrade to a fourth-round selection.

The deal can't be done until 12:00 a.m. EST on February 29.

Williamson was the seventh overall pick in the 2005 draft, and he was supposed to make folks in Minnesota forget about Randy Moss.

It didn't happen. In 2007, Williamson caught 18 passes. Moss caught 23 touchdown passes.

The Vikings' coach at the time of Williamson's arrival was Mike Tice. After the 2005 season, Tice was fired in Minnesota, and thereafter hired by the Jaguars as an assistant.

In Jacksonville, Williams should feel right at home. None of the team's other receivers can catch, either.

Absolutely disgusted with this trade. Now we have two 2005 1st round bust receivers. Great!

Matt Jones ran a 4.37 in the 40. Look what it's done for him. Waste of a draft pick by the Jags, in my opinion.

Hopefully their fourth year in the NFL will be the turning point for Jones and Williamson; it was for Reggie Williams. He had 10 touchdowns this season.

I dont put much stock into the Pioneer Press as the Startribune is much more well known, especially with there beat writers getting info on the Vikings.

If it's true, dumb trade. I would just let him play another year. He's cheap and the risk is worth the reward. Anything less than a 3rd would be dumb for the Vikings I think. Unless were getting Randy back, signing Jerry Porter or signing Bernard Berrian ..

Alright, now Startribune is reporting its authenticity. Ignorant trade for the Vikes. Deal a 1st round WR with a very reasonable salary for a late 6th round draft pick .. unreal.

I mean, he isnt Randy Moss (Who we gave away for him mind you) but were even getting shafted here. I would just hold onto him and hope for the best ..

I guess I can't complain if it's a sixth round pick. Hopefully he will be a good reclamation project.
