I don't think I've ever seen anything like that in person, Pretty cool!!! They are Honey Bees and according to the "Bee man" they were probably relocated during a heavy rain saturday night and found shelter where they landed on my fence. He say's he estimates about 2,000 bees all balled up around the Queen Bee protecting her. Told me that they would probably move across the street into the woods and they should be gone in a few days ... sure enough I came home tonight and they were gone!

Thats neat. When I was a kid (30 yrs ago)we had a swarm like that in our backyard and they were soon gone, but they put off my mowing the yard for a while. Hope they find a good home because they are very important for helping supply the food we eat, especially since beekeepers are having problems keeping their bees alive. thanks for sharing.

i've heard that wild honey bees are a rare commodity anymore. Consider yourself blessed!!
But on a more serious note, you should have whacked them with a stick!!!

I read gas meters and seen a Big Hive on one of my Routes, was pretty neat until I read it the next month and it was destroyed.

Had I seen something like that anywhere I would have been reduced to a quivering, blubbering pee and poo stained mess :\
Bees are my ultimate fear....*shudders*

The funny thing is I called a Bee keeper and he said he wouldn't even be interested in taking them since these day's their "crops" of bees are all hybrid bees raised primarily for producing honey. He said that if I wanted them gone to call an exterminator or wait it out and they should leave on their own.
These bees were not very aggresive at all, I got pretty close to them at one point and they acted like they didn't even care. I've never been stung in my life and didn't want to tempt fate but I figured it was probably the last time I'd see something like that so I had to inspect it closely!! Pretty cool though!!
