People need to learn what a rookie card really is!!!

I am so sick of people list something as a rookie card and then when you get into further talks with them you find out that it is a insert or subset or variation.

If the card has a prefix on it, then it is not a rookie. AK-SF is not a rookie card. Neither is SF-18. I'm sick of looking through all these threads and people have cards listed as rookies when they may be a jersey insert card.

I think there needs to be a message sent out or a sticky or something letting people know what is a rookie card.

If you collect basketball then you'll kow what I'm talking about in this example.

I am trying to collect the 08 hot prospects rookie patch/autos. I keep listing threads about them and telling people I only want the true rookie cards from the set. I get offers like "hey i've got a kevin durant notable newcomers". For Christ sake, can people not read or are they just dumb?

Just because a card is out during a certain players rookie year does not make that his true rookie card.

I also have problems with people offering me stuff that has nothing to do with the thread or what I am looking for. I will post a thread saying that I am looking for 08 sweet shot rookie autos and then someone will reply back "Hey man I've got a 03 so and so jersey card".????????????

Does anyone else have these problems or am I crazy, I know I'm fairly new but here but this just gets annoying.

It just something you have to deal with. I not seen your post so I can not truly comment on what your saying. SO just try to do the following (which it seems you are).

1) Post exactly what your looking for. (perhaps even at the bottom NO EXCEPTIONS TO LIST PLEASE).

2) When someone replies on something be kind. Who knows why they do that. Of course we all need to be respected.

3) If they still contact you just LAY IT OUT OR SPELL IT OUT FOR THEM. Kill them with exactly what you wanted (NO EXCEPTIONS).

4) If these people keep bothering you just don't bother replying. As your the one who getting upset (not them).

since your new, you have to understand some things people don't really care to read anything. You could ask for a john doe rc #1 and you'll still get people making those posts to you! Just move on or you'll have a heartattack!

A lot of times the reason this happens is that somebody reads your post and will check your bucket, but finds they either a) like something you have, but don't have what you're looking for or b) find they like something you have in your bucket, but wasn't listed in your trade list (different situation from yours, but very similar)...so they offer a trade.

I can see how this might frustrate you if you're looking for one specific thing, but most people on here collect several different brands/players/teams. I just put up a post looking for Tarvaris Jackson and Michael Turner, but if somebody sees something they like of mine, but don't have any of those to offer, I'm not going to get mad at them if they offer me something else or ask me to look at their bucket. They're on here to make trades and they're just trying to make that happen.

So I'd say Don's suggestions would help, say you're ONLY looking for those...but you'll still probably get people posting different stuff. Just realize these people are just trying to make trades also and be patient with them. Going off on somebody (not saying you do that, but some people do) doesn't help anything...it makes members mad and will make you look like somebody that's hard to deal with to other members, which can make it hard to find good people to trade with. Most of the established members like people that are friendly and easy to deal with and a lot are already leery of dealing with newer members anyway. And even though you may get into something with another newer trader, everyone sees it in the thread...so if you do have a problem with someone that you want to confront them about, take it to PMs.

As far as the RC vs rookie year thing, I think a lot of people just get lazy. It's just easier to type "I have some John Doe RCs" than "I have some John Doe rookie year inserts." In the age of chatroom shorthand and texting abbreviations, it should come as no surprise that people are shortening things like that as well. But some people truly don't know, in which case I would just reply with something like "I'm looking for true RCs only, thanks." If they don't understand the difference, maybe they'll ask and you can explain the difference so they'll know next time

I don't even have a photobucket or tradelist in my listings. And I do say, "I am only looking for there true rookies". I don't get mad at them, but this is why I wrote this thread.

I think a lot of people are missing the point of my post. I think that a lot of people don't know what a rookie card is. I think people think if it is from a guys rookie year then it is automatically his rookie card, so they list it that way. They say I have a kevin durant rookie and then when you ask them what kind it ends up being from some subset or an insert. I know that there are people of all ages that post on here and maybe the young ones just don't know. It just gets annoying when you are going through 100's of post and people label cards wrong and you end up wasting your time and their time.

People need to learn, if you look your card up in beckett and it does not have RC by it then it is not that players rookie card and you shouldn't post it that way.

i also deal with the topic of people posting in my threads when i clearly state. the main thing is people are LAZY. i have an amare stoudemire needlist. i take the time to edit it and make it up to date but people still dont even bother to look at the list and post everything i already have. i do get mad but i simply reply "already have those, thanks anyway". thats all you have to do. and if someone is doing that similar thing to your thread just do the same thing "i state what im looking for and didnt see you had it, thanks anyway". its that easy!

I definitely agree that a lot of people don't know the difference...either because they haven't been told or they just don't pay attention to the rules. A lot of people look at RCs as anything that came out during a players rookie year. I think since so many different brands and cards within each brand has blurred the rules between RC and not for most people.

People need to learn, if you look your card up in beckett and it does not have RC by it then it is not that players rookie card and you shouldn't post it that way.

One thing about this, a lot of people on here use Beckett online and it doesn't designate all the RCs like the print version does...that may be part of what is causing the problem.

I think what most of us are saying is that it can be very frustrating, but it's not going to go away so it's best just to try to ignore it and post a civil response.

the statement in bold isn't even true.....there ARE base sets that have prefix numbering (Bowman Sterling is one that comes to mind)

and you are also the person who said in response to a rude ebay seller, "i would bid on a $1000 dollar card and just not pay - yeah, its childish....but you know what they say, 2 wrongs make a right".....that statement doesn't help your cause in my book!!

I think that most people tend to consider a player's card that came out in a Rookie Year to be his rookie card. I mean look at Albert Pujols. The inserts/parallels from his rookie year go for more than his actual rookies do

And there are likely some people that don't know that what they have is part of a sub-set or insert set. I think you need to allow a little leeway when people reply. It doesn't take that much effort to relpy with "No Thanks" or something like that. Now if your problem stems from having to look at list after list only to find the inserts you spoke of, then I suggest that you put in your post exactly what you're looking for. SOmething like "Only TRUE rookies. No Inserts from his rookie year."

Of course no matter what you do there will be people that refuse to listen. ;-)
