Pittsburgh card show question...
My friend and I are looking to go to a card show (something close to Buffalo) amd came across a show in Pittsburgh promoted by J. Paul Sports Promotion.

Does anyone know anything about it? Is it worth going to? I've never been to a show and my friend hasn't been to one in over a decade, so we're both out of the loop.
Any opinions are appreciated.

I went to a show a couple weeks ago, its a lot of fun. It is like going to a mall and every store in the mall is a hobby shop, lol. It's really fun, you should go! 250 tables sounds like a lot too, so i bet you'll be able to find some stuff you'd like.
My main tip would be to bring a plastic box with you to put cards in, some places do not have top loaders or sleeves. So I had to buy a plastic box to carry around with me.

dont know the promoter, and never been to a show there (personally like the IUP shows, only shows i go to out there).....but RMU is a nice college!!

What should I expect to pay for boxes and individual cards? Are there deals, or do they jack the prices up? I'm trying to figure out how much $$ I need to save up.

i rarely buy sealed stuff anymore, so i dont keep up on the market on them.....obviously steelers/pens/pirates stuff is a premium out there....really dont know about the bills (is buffalo really that close??).....just like most shows, there is usually a bit of everything......always gonna be guys with inflated prices, and can always find the tables with bargains.....really just a matter of finding them......ive found i have better luck finding the "steals" either the first several hours of the show (before stuff gets picked over) or the last couple hours of the show (when dealers are trying to get a couple extra bucks before packing up)
never hurts to make offers on stuff.....rarely do i just buy a card at a given price at a show (talking stuff over $10 or $20....i dont ask for 50 cent cards for a quarter, lol).....i always talk it up with dealers, ive gotten quite a few deals in the past just being friendly with the guys
reguardless, if you haven't been to a show in a while, and have the means to go, id probably recommend checking it out.....did you check the events forum for anything that might be a bit closer to ya??

you know, i wondered if you could bargain. but i am shy so i didn;t even try.
i'd say the prices are pretty much what you'd see at a card store. a lot of $1 and $5 bins where you might find some good steals. i don't look at pricey cards so i'm not much help there.
for boxes, at the show i went to, there was probably about 3 main places just selling only boxes. i bought one from d & a card world, their prices at the show were actually slightly cheaper than on their website. i'd say the prices overall are just about what you'd see online.

that has always been one of the better shows, many of the big time dealers are there,plus a lot of local guys. the big gym is usually full of tables. They usually have a bunch of autographs going on too. You have to pay for them though. I would recommend that show. I have been to it many times. Most of the guys will barter a little, and trade if they can get over on you pretty good. You will see everything there from the early stuff to todays cards and memorbilia. Have a good time. Pat

I guess about 3 1/2 hours (I've never been there ). It's not real close, but the other shows I've seen closer to home seem a lot smaller (one in Toronto only had 15 tables and no football). This seems like a pretty big show- I've looked into it more and have seen it mentioned in Tuff Stuff and Beckett.
