Question: Donruss Threads Retail vs. Hobby

    Hey Guys:
Anyone know if the Donruss Threads Retail boxes (24 packs, 5 cards ea) are worth a look? Is there anything in there? Other than the "guaranteed hits" in the hobby boxes, are there different cards in there? Can you still pull cards of the major rookies? I see you can get the boxes on eBay for around 30 bucks. With the hobby version going for around 100, I'm just wondering if you get near the value with the retail version. Any ideas?
    Thanks.

The hobby version is always best to go with if you can afford it...4 hits as opposed to only 1 in the retail (I think). When I was trying to get the Threads base set, I bought 3 blasters (which I know is different than a retail box, but it's still retail) and I got bupkis...3 parallels altogether...not even any inserts or RCs. They do have at least one parallel set that's only available in retail, but it's nothing special at all.

    Donruss Threads Retail

Thanks Tiger. I opened up one of the retail boxes last night, a total of 120 cards, and got none of the major rookies. I got two green, two gold, and two blue parallel cards - including 4 rookies of Naanee, Newton, Frampton, and Broussard. I got a memorabilia insert that's apparently available in retail packs only - an Alge Crumpler (woo-hoo) with a piece of football in it #'ed to 500. I got a couple of gridiron kings - Andre Johnson and Sinorice Moss. Everything else were base cards. Does anyone know if the base cards are the same between hobby and retail?

Generally speaking if you view "hits" in terms of GU and autos, just bite the bullet and buy hobby.

Now if you like RCs like myself, then you can do some research and find good retail products like Topps Chrome. There you can find an AP just as easily as a Leon Hall.

I bought Threads in both retail and in hobby and there is no comparison. Don't waste your time with the retail.

    Sad but true.
