A Subscriber no More! (Thanks Beckett Customer Service)
I've subscribed to the Beckett Baseball Card Magazine for about 12 years now. As many of you know, this past month, Beckett switched formats to a four-sport price guide. And they eliminated all the older pricing. I understand why they wanted to go to a format like this, especially with so many collectors only wanting the newest, hottest thing. However, it's just simply not for me.
So today I finally got around to calling Beckett to switch to the Baseball Card Plus price guide (a bi-monthly guide). The woman said it was no problem at all, and before I hung up, she told me that my subscription would expire in November 2008.
That didn't seem right. It wasn't.
I found out that my original subscription was not set to expire until mid-2009, so I called back to find out what they were doing. The woman I spoke with informed me that the Plus guide was more expensive, and so I would receive fewer issues. I was pretty mad, and I told her "you can't do that. You can't offer a product, and then remove the product, and force people to switch to a more expensive one. I have a subscription until 2009, not a subscription based on how much the issues cost." Long story short, I canceled my remaining subscription, and I'm getting a check for $21 in the mail to refund me for the remaining issues I was supposed to get.
I wonder how many other people this has happened to. Remember, I've been a subscriber for 12 years, and I never considered ending my subscription until this morning.
Thanks for reading my rant.

I also dislike how they combined all the sports into one beckett. Sounds like Beckett has horrible customer services. I've never had to deal with them though.

I've never had a problem with them until now.
And, to be honest, I won't have a problem with them ever again :)

You can still get the regular Beckett Baseball, but it's bi-monthly.

That's the one they wanted to give me, but they called it Beckett Baseball Card Plus. And it's more expensive than the one I had.
I didn't want to get into how they figured out how many issues I had left, but I'm sure they were wrong.

I gave up my subscription to Racing Beckett in 2006 because:
1. They once sent it on time one every three months;
2. The issue would be ripped at some point during transit and I would have to but another one;
and 3. The customer service sucked. I was upset they ceased the Racing Beckett at first, then i realized it was one less thing to worry about.
I could just get the annual Racing Beckett and be happy,
Alex
