Penn State Blue White Game
I couldn't find the NCAA thread, so if this needs moved, feel free to do so...
Anyway, took the kids to the spring scrimmage yesterday, and I wanted to rant about a couple of things...
First, why are old men so enamored with autographs of Student/Athletes??? My son had to fight his way to the front, pushing old sloppy men out of his way in the process. Then when the players got close, they are like leaning on & pushing kids to get autos themselves. I kept my cool, but I felt like giving some of these jerks my 2 cents! My son is 8, and he knows the stars and stuff, but he doesn't care who signs his football or autograph page, he smiles from ear to ear everytime a player gave him their autograph!
Yesterday, I actually seen one tall guy with 3 different footballs who would get one signed, then pass it back to his wife, who would then hand him the next ball to get signed by the same player. Now, maybe these were for his kids or grandkids, or for himself, but how is an 8 year old who stands 4'6" supposed to compete with a 50 year old who stands 6'2"? And if you do get a players auto, get out of the way and let somebody else get a chance!
Now, I'm not against anybody getting an autograph...in fact, the kid in me wants autographs too! But, there either needs to be a designated time for kids only, or adults need to wake up and realize that kids should come first?
I'm not complaining because my son didn't get any autos...When the game ended, he was the first one on the field and ran right up to his favorite players! He landed Derrick Williams, Deon Butler, Sean Lee, AJ Wallace, Matt Hahn and even got Jay Alford (the man who crushed Tom Brady in the Super Bowl!) He was also really close to getting Paul Posluszny, but Paul just wanted to avoid the crowd...I don't blame him! Too many adults breathing down his neck!
Am I out of line by thinking that kids should come first? Tell me what you think! Again, I'm not against adults seeking autographs at all...I just don't want somebody leaning on or pushing my kids out of the way to get one!
Also, getting autographs in person is far cooler than pulling one out of a pack!
