I have a feeling this will go the way of the Manly Men tourney....a lot of bad taste. I've come to the conclusion that most people don't know what good beer is, which is the only explanation as to how Budweiser & Bud Light are popular.

when it comes to "mainstream" brews, it starts and stops with Guinness!! but who can afford to drink $40 cases of beer these days (not this guy!!).....i wont drink any light beer except miller lite...some pretty solid imports out there, and im a huge fan of microbrews

id love to see a bracket, although i dont know how that would fly....dont wanna be promoting the use of alcohol to the 13 year olds.....but ive seen some prominant people post videos promoting binge drinking, so whats the difference!!

You could restrict the voting to 21+ only...somehow....

I love Guinness monkey, but my mainstream beer of choice is Newcastle...not much better in life to me than a cool (not cold!) Newcastle pint! I despise most lights and cheap beers in general. I can drink a few if I have to, but never a Budweiser product. Yeungling, PBR and Michelob Amber Bock are my cheap beers of choice. I'm a big fan of dark beers, love porters, and I prefer a good microbrew too. That's one of the reasons I think it would be hard to do a good bracket...most of the best stuff is not known well enough because they're micros and most of the stuff that everybody knows isn't very good....

good stuff man....i try and avoid the cheap stuff at all costs, but sometimes its inevitable.....tailgates, football games, concerts, big camping trips, etc.....get stuck with some miller lite, but i can deal with that.....always been my "cheap" beer of choice since college

be careful with the yuengling!! i live in PA, and its always been the popular brew here (believe its the oldest brewery in the US!!)....i drank nothing but that stuff in the late 90s, and really did a number on my stomach!! now, the smell of that stuff makes me weezy, lol

if you ever get a chance (assuming you haven't already), check out a microbrew festival....i got introduced to some great stuff from around the country thru these venues, cause as you said, they are so localized that most people only know of their hometown brews.....ive found some great beers in oregon, georgia, and tennessee!!

one of my best friends in HS had 2 older brothers....when they graduated they started tinkering around with recipes in their parents basement.....they got good at it, started selling bottled cases to local establishments, and it became a hit!! is the most popular stuff in central PA, and has actually started making its way up and down the east coast!!

PM comming with a few links for you to check out!!

I don't think doing a beer bracket promote drinking.....I don't have a problem with it yet. But should a complaint arise it will be looked at harder. Funny to even be talking of this seeing every sporting event sells the stuff and where do sports cards come from but sports!!!!

Yeah cheap stuff is a necessity at times. All the reasons you mentioned plus I'm not too far out of college where it was abundant. I never drank cheap beer in college too much even when I had no money. I'd eat Ramen noodles for a week just to be able to buy decent beer! One of my life's mottos is "Life's too short to buy cheap toilet paper or cheap beer!"

Yeungling just started making it down this way in the past few years, thankfully. One of my friends found it in Wilmington, NC first, then it finally made it's way over to the western part of the state. I prefer the Black and Tan, but the Lager is pretty good too. And surprisingly it's very cheap here, about the same as PBR and Bud Light and 100 times better.

I've been to two microbrew fests, in Wilmington and Charlotte. You can find a lot of good stuff there, but man is there a lot of bad stuff too. Sometimes people get a little too creative if you know what I mean...some stuff just wasn't meant to go in beer. I do love the fests though, get a glass and just start drinking. Unfortunately one was in a wide open area w/absolutely no shade in the middle of summer...I don't do well getting plastered in the baking hot sun.

Thanks for the links too...I'll have to keep those in mind if I ever get to travel again, but the wifey and kids are making it look like it will be a long while.

oh, i agree...and like i said, ive seen worse george (but being better than a bad thing isn't automatically good).....promoting wasn't the right word i guess....i just always judge on the side of caution when possible.....im ruthless when im with friends/family, im a cursing machine, love the raw comedy, all that good stuff.....very non PC......so when im in "mixed company", especially a PG crowd, i try and watch what words i use, and topics i discuss

I'm a Boddington's guy myself. Although some of my other faves are Einbecker Mai-Ur Bock, Chimay, and Greene King Abbott Ale... not to mention pretty much every trappist ale out there.

Sounds like you know what you're doing, Boddington's is not bad at all (have had or hear of the others). I'm trusting you to put quality stuff in the tourney...
