I've never used the "extreme security" version but the zonealarm free firewall works pretty well.

What are peoples views on ZoneAlarm Extreme security. my wife and I are leaning towards it.

12 hours left, I have it, and it behaves well with Spybot and Avast.

    I have a question ..

My McAfee just ran out and I really don't want to renew it (read can't afford it) ... if I download this AVG Anti-virus and the Zonealarm firewall is that good or am I better getting back with McAfee?

Not really up to speed on this type stuff. I've always heard though that McAfee is not that great and not worth the money.

    Thanks!

Honestly, I find the free stuff to be just as good as the stuff you pay for.

Cool then, I'm gonna check it out tonigh. My McAfee just ended yesterday and I don't have the money to pay for it right now. I rarely use my computer at home but it obviously still needs to be protected.

    Thanks!!

    Cool Tip, something to try:
There are many great tools, but this is easy & fun ;)

Bootable CD with Puppy Linux(can also make a live cd), it loads in the Ram, yes ram, no HD needed..give it a try on an old system you have that may be bjorked or just sitting there. Works well on laptops

It can also mount a hard drive, so you can see if there's any readable info left on it.

Nice thread on security... I use Eset, the best anti-virus money can buy , it doesn't eat your system resources and has a very fast scan engine unlike Norton and Kapersky, etc,,...

    Nod32 vs competition:

    Their numerous awards:

For free antivirus programs I use avast, AVG is ok, but I prefer Avast... Spybot is the best for spyware, adaware was just ok..

Oh yeah and how really secure is your firewall???

I'm stealth and passed.. How do you stack up??

Zonealarm was great until checkpoint bought them out... I still use a older version of zonealarm for my software firewall and don't forget about your hardware firewall settings also, enabling the hardware firewall makes a difference, but also can block some web pages from loading...

    Thanks..

Microsoft Security Essentials has blown AVG out of the way. Less resources and much more effecient in real time protection. Absolutely free for all home users.

Malwarebytes is also a good program for spyware removal.

    CCleaner is good as well.

I do IT work and run a side business, going to college to get my degree in Network Security, but those are the main programs I use for my clients. Never given me a problem.
