House Passes Bill to sue OPEC

The Democrats are re-creating the 1970s! I have an idea, let's sue a mob boss next. I'm sure he won't retaliate!

If we sue OPEC they will simply retaliate by raising prices and if they get really ticked off they will embargo us like they did in the 1970s. Have Democrats gone insaine?

Another funny thing is how I hear Democrats state, "we can't force US values on other countries," but now:
The bill would subject OPEC oil producers, including Saudi Arabia, Iran and Venezuela, to the same antitrust laws that U.S. companies must follow.

Because Iran, Venezuela, and some of the other OPEC countries already do what we ask them to...suing them should make things a lot better. If there wasn't the very real possibility that this could make things unbelievably worse, it would be completely laughable!

We must keep in mind, though, that this opens the door to suing--which may be more of a threat than anything.

Bush would strike it down if it managed to get past Congress.

Exactly...an empty threat. At best, they laugh at us and America comes off looking extremely foolish. At worst, it's just enough to tick them off and they decide to flex a little muscle and show us just how bad they can make it.

Bush would strike it down if it managed to get past Congress.

    If he's smart he would.

President Bush wants this to happen. That way he can make Alaska look like a great idea. Woo Hoo, more profits for the oil companies.

If Bush let's this go through then we are going to have more issues on our hands. I can't believe they are passing this.

Let me understand the logic. The same legislators who will not allow us to increase domestic production of crude is going to sue other nations for not pumping enough crude? Pure idiocy. I fail to see how adding tort costs to the oil producers is going to lower costs. This is going to raise costs...way to go Congress!
