John Walsh and the AMW crew headed down to Lowe's Motor Speedway in Charlotte, N.C. recently to catch the Sprint NASCAR All-Star Race, and to catch up with some of racing's biggest stars, including Kurt Busch and Kasey Kahne.

While in Charlotte, John got the chance to meet Martin Lawing, the Sheriff's Deputy who was named the winner of the 2008 AMW All-Star Contest. During a standoff at a home with a mentally ill woman, SWAT team member Lawing was shot and paralyzed while tossing a cell phone into the residence.

Lawing was John Walsh's personal guest at the race, and John gave Lawing a check for $10,000, a small token of appreciation for risking his life to protect his North Carolina community.

John also met five superstar NASCAR drivers -- including Kasey Kahne, who went on to win both the All-Star Race and the $1 million bounty the victory carries.

"We put on a show for the fans," Kasey Kahne said. "It's a lot of fun."

The All-Star challenge doesn't count toward the season's points race, but a victory in Charlotte can mean bragging rights for the winning crew.

For many of the NASCAR drivers, though, it's not their record of race wins and losses that matters the most. John Walsh talked with Brian Vickers, Kurt Busch, Dave Blaney, Elliot Sadler and Jamie McMurray about how their teams are doing so far this season, and who each of them considers to be their personal heroes.
