what card innovations should be next?

I was reading in the beckett on this topic. here's my ideas

    1. a set of gu memorabilia that focuses on trademarks of player. for example Iverson/kobe shooting sleeve, wade/mcgrady Mcdavid shoulder pads, rip facemask(if possible, maybe), you can have old schoolers gu like slick watts headband, horace grant google strap, artis gilmore afro ( j/k)

    2. a redemption set that matters. my idea is have a 30 player set, each redemption is to meet the player on the redemption and participate in a rookie premiere like photo shoot with them, with a personal 1/1 card sent to you from the shoot auto'd by the player. this would be awesome, redemption would sale hi, and player collectors would love a personal, 1 of 1

please post comment and more ideas, this should be fun

i think your idea for #1 sounds really cool, and i'd think the players would be willing to donate that kind of stuff. but who knows how many face masks rip has... if they're expensive they might have to be a low #'d card!

I do not have any ideas of my own right now. But I really like your #1 suggestion. #2 sounds cool (to meet a player), but not very fair to all player collectors. 1/1's aren't fair to player collectors in my opinion.

Considering the current state of the hobby, I expect this to be released by Upper Deck soon:

In partnership with our buddy company Beckett and to expand our relationship with the new hobby God Ebay, Upper Deck is proud to announce the release of the new product: UD Electronix!

The new product will be placed into packs, and sealed into boxes, but with a new catch: There are no actual cards! Instead, you will receive a scratch code that will unlock an ebay auction. Your card will automatically be placed into a 7 day auction when your code is activated. The picture of what the card would have actually looked like had you owned it will still be there.

"We expect UD Electronix to usher in the new age of collecting," says UD Spokesperson Bill Dollar, "sure, it used to be nice to actually have the card in hand, but now we see people would rather assume it's in mint condition and never actually touched by human hands".

Packs will retail for $75 and contain codes for three cards- one autograph, one patch, and one card numbered to some absurd numbering system that creates 15 different parallel sets to a base set that doesn't actually exist. Redemptions will not be part of the product since no cards will actually have to be sent out. Should the collector actually wish to possess the card, they will have the option of cancelling the auction and waiting 4-6 months for Upper Deck to send the card to them. Receiving actual cards will only be possible with a $9.99 monthly subscription to UD Online, and a per-card fee of $4.99 plus shipping will exist.

Cards that don't suck, perhaps? I've been waiting for that for years now.

Here's an idea I had about 10 years ago...you put a little vibrating thing like the kind in pagers and cell phones into a card. Then you push a little button on it and the card starts vibrating. You could call it "Richter Scale" or some such thing. The problem back then was that the card would have to be very thick, at least as thick as patch cards are today, but obviously that's no longer a problem.
