Upper Deck doesn't care that it's destroying the hobby. That's exactly what it wants to do. Its vision of what card collecting should be is what the art collecting market should be, in that the only people who can participate are the ultra-rich. The ultimate (so to speak) goal is to have it so that the only things produced are 1/1 multi-auto, multi-logo-patches purchased directly from the manufacturer for no less than $1000 apiece, although of course there are 50 different versions of each one. They intend to alienate and bankrupt everyone without the resources or desire to be part of that market.

Woah.. that's morbid. Nah they'll stick with base upperdeck and topps will stick with base topps, and those prices won't rise much. But that would suck pretty bad lol.

sorry to say it, but the hobby is lost for two reasons- ebay and upper deck.

because of these two things working together to supply michael jordan and lebron james to the masses, no one wants anything else. bv is strictly based on demand. who wants a corey maggette auto when you can go buy one of lebron james on ebay? i blame it all on the collectors. no one is collecting anymore. its a blood bath for lebron, MJ, kobe, magic, dr j and bird. i collect the bucks because they are my hometown (close to) team. not many people do that. that is the problem. UD knows that they can charge 400$ for a box of cards if there is a little chance of pulling one of those players. sorry, but you're not getting your hobby back....i was just thinking about this the other day. I also think if people who collected these cards played the game and watched it attentively there would be a better chance of them collecting things other than household names.

    That's the major problem, IMO.

If I'm buying a $200 pack of ultimate, and my "big pull" is a Josh McRoberts Auto/Patch, there's something wrong.

Why is Josh McRoberts even signing cards? He isn't even in the NBA--he's a D-Leaguer.

And why in the world is McRoberts in a set like ULTIMATE?

That, IMO, is the biggest problem. They mass produce these things of anyone and everyone, and value goes straight down because of it.

    hey id like that card

I seriously think UD, topps & Fleer should've controlled the GU & Auto market in 2001 when they started to mass produce them.

But it's too late and we see more and more patches, autos and Gus losing value.
In 1997 or 1998, I would've never thought I could get MJ jersey card for $30-40.

When 97-98 UD Game jersey first came out, MJ jersey was everyone's dream.

That's why when I do spend a lot of money on single cards, I buy kobe rookie cards rookie parallels.
Those are definitely worth keeping and collecting.

Also, I no longer buy packs or boxes as when I do buy one pack for like $30 or something and pull nothing, I would feel really bad because with that money I could get one Kobe patch or Tmac auto.
