Starting a Specific Collection
Before coming to this site I never really realized that most people who collected only collected a certain set to build, couple of players, or certain team. I just kind of bought boxes of football, basketball, or baseball I liked and kept whatever I got. Now that seems kind of boring to me after seeing all the trading and stuff that goes on here with so many amazing personal collections.
I hadn't busted anything in quite a while until I bought some 08 packs last week, got nothing, but I feel rejuvenated in the hobby. So I got to thinking about collecting a certain, player, or team, but that didn't appeal to me to much. The idea of building a set of something is pretty intriguing though.
The last couple days I spent thinking about what set I would choose, and I am still really drawn to the 06 draft class with Bush, Lienart, Young, and my Jaguar boys Marcedes and Maurice. I didn't want anything really, really high end because I know I wouldn't be able to afford that (going to college next year).
I didn't want something really simple to build like topps or bowman, and I like autos a lot more than gu stuff so after going through a beckett magazine I was drawn to Finest and Contenders. I would just want to collect the base and not a ton of parallels so the Contenders looked the best, but at 140 autos in the base and $100 a box with 4 autos per it would take a lot of work to get it finished.
I follow the draft a lot, so a lot of the no name guys to some people I don't feel so bad to pull because I have heard of them before. Sorry for such a long read, just looking for some feedback on whether this is a worthy endeavor or if anyone else was like me just buying cards without specifically collecting a person/team.
Anyway lol, thanks for the read and if I decided to start this let me know if you have any Contenders autos lol, I will probably order 2 boxes from HS grad. money over the weekend.

Honestly, Contenders is one of those sets that is a lot easier to buy and trade for singles than through busting.... just because the box breaks can be brutal at times. Good Luck with the set, though! It will be great to see completed!

I ordered the 2 boxes last night, so I should be getting them in either Wed. or Thur. and will post my breaks on the site. Wish me luck, I am hoping to get a couple of the top guys and/or short prints because those will be the toughest to buy/trade for.

I got my boxes in, and had a couple pretty good breaks thanks to the last couple packs in each box. I hit and MJD auto second to last in the first box, then a Marques Colston last pack in the second box. The whole box break is in the box breaks forum if anyone is interested.
