Israel to attack Iran unless enrichment stops

Now the question is, who do you want as President when we go to war with Iran, Obama or McCain?
An Israeli attack on Iranian nuclear sites looks "unavoidable" given the apparent failure of sanctions to deny Tehran technology with bomb-making potential, one of Prime Minister Ehud Olmert's deputies said on Friday.

"If Iran continues with its program for developing nuclear weapons, we will attack it. The sanctions are ineffective," Transport Minister Shaul Mofaz told the mass-circulation Yedioth Ahronoth newspaper.

"Attacking Iran, in order to stop its nuclear plans, will be unavoidable," said the former army chief who has also been defense minister.

It was the most explicit threat yet against Iran from a member of Olmert's government, which, like the Bush administration, has preferred to hint at force as a last resort should U.N. Security Council sanctions be deemed a dead end.

The day that Israel or the U.S. attacks Iran will be the day that World War 3 begins.

    Yes, I said it.

Iran isn't Afghanistan. Iran isn't Iraq. Iran is Iran.

What does that mean? Iran's military is worst than Iraq's was before we invaded.

Go Israel. I tell you what, if I was the leader of a radical nation and had my choice of being attacked by the U.S. or Israel I would take the U.S. The Israeli army is a bunch of BMFs that will destroy everything you own, and instead of helping you rebuild, they'll just keep it for themselves.

Frightening stuff. But it was extremely naive and childish to expect any kind of sanctions to work against a country like Iran...they don't care about that kind of stuff.

I can't blame Israel for their concern. We don't want Iran to get the bomb because it would cause global problems and possibly end up here. Israel, however, knows they will be a target...there's a big difference between "ah crap, this is gonna cause a mess" and "they're coming at us with a nuke."

And I completely agree with you, haybierman. America has the greatest military in the world, but we also have this thing called restraint...no one has ever seen the full fury of our forces. In this situation, I highly doubt Israel would hold anything back and I wouldn't even want them coming at the US in that frame of mind.

At a time of war I'd STILL go with Obama simply because he puts diplomacy before disaster. Like you have said, Iran isn't that big of a threat. Give me Obama and a better health plan, economy, and foreign policy over McCain any day.

Iran isn't that big of a threat? They hide behind a lot of claims of innocence, but they're basically people of the same mindset as Al Qaeda, only they're about to have nuclear weapons...Iran and North Korea are the two biggest threats to global security.

I'm all for avoiding war at all costs, but diplomacy doesn't carry very much water with these types of people.

My point is, if diplomacy doesn't work, it really wouldn't take a whole lot of military action. Quite frankly, McCain has yet to prove credibility in even a situation such as that.

Did Iraq have a navy and air force? Didn't look like they did! Iran definitely has one.

Iraqi soldiers dropped their weapons when we invaded. If airstrikes are launched on Iran, they won't hesitate to hit crucial U.S. and Israeli bases in the Middle East. From what I previously read, they have a missle capable of hitting Israel. If ground invasion, Iranian soldiers aren't going to throw their weapons down and be occupied.

    ------------

Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, and Syria are bigger threats than Iran. Those countries harbor the most terrorists. I'm not interested in reading an article that says otherwise. I've been lied to enough.

    -------------

Contrary to belief, Iran does have an Air Force. Small sample.
