Obama's Voting Record
One you get past all the "change" and rock-star rallies and actually look at Obama's voting record you may be a little shocked. He hardly ever voted, but here are a few:
- He sponsored S.CON.RES.53: A concurrent resolution expressing the sense of Congress that any effort to impose photo identification requirements for voting should be rejected.
- In 1999 he was the only Illinois State Senator to vote against a bill barring early release for (criminal) sex offenders.
- He voted against filtering pornography on school and library computers and he voted for sex education for kindergarten children through the 5th grade.
- Also, in 2001, he voted “present” on a bill to keep pornographic book and video stores and strip clubs from setting up within 1,000 feet of schools and churches.
- Twice, Obama voted against bills prohibiting tax funding of abortions.
- In February 2004, his wife, Michelle, sent out a fundraising letter, which actually stated her concern over the rise of conservatism in the Country, and that the ‘so-called’ partial-birth abortion was a legitimate medical procedure that should be protected.

I suppose we could go down each one of these. But just out of curiosity did you happen to read "S.CON.RES.53: A concurrent resolution expressing the sense of Congress that any effort to impose photo identification requirements for voting should be rejected." A large part of the resolution deals with the state of Georgia. What parts of the resolution do you find inaccurate?

Maybe it is just me, but if we require a photo ID to get a Block Buster card we should require an ID to vote for the President of the United States.
Why in the world would anyone be against having a photo ID to vote? It prevents voter fraud. There is a reason why so many dead people vote each election!

That's not what I asked. Did you read the resolution?

Where did I say I found it inaccurate???
Obama sponsored this resolution that immediately states:
Expressing the sense of Congress that any effort to impose photo identification requirements for voting should be rejected.
You can read the bill here. I know why Obama and other Democrats are doing this. They get 10s of thousands of votes from illegals and requiring an ID card to vote would kill this voting block.
I find this a complete joke:
a requirement that United States citizens obtain photo identification cards before being able to vote has not been shown to ensure ballot integrity and places an undue burden on the legitimate voting rights of such citizens;
We require more proof of residence on SCF for trading sports cards than Democrats want for voting in elections. I wonder why? :)

I know what the resolution says, I already read it. My question was what was inaccurate about the resolution. If you believe people should have photo id's, then you must have arguments against what was presented in the resolution. So what was it you found inaccurate or offensive? Which of their points do you disagree with?

Mike, I think what's being mentioned about S.CON.RES.53 is this.
It was in reference to H.CON.RES.247, which reads:
Expressing the sense of Congress that a requirement that United States citizens obtain photo identification cards before being able to vote has not been shown to ensure ballot integrity and places an undue burden on the legitimate voting rights of citizens.
Neither of these made it out of subcommitee back in 2005.
But instead of pulling information from a third party, why don't we pull information from the government itself, which actually does keep records of these things.
He voted to nominate Condoleezza Rice for Secretary of State. Whoops.
He voted to nominate Alberto Gonzalez for Attorney General. Whoops.
He voted for American rights: A bill to amend the procedures that apply to consideration of interstate class actions to assure fairer outcomes for class members and defendants, and for other purposes. (after MANY votes in favor of similar things that were shot down)
He voted to nominate Michael Chertoff to be Secretary of Homeland Security. Whoops.
He voted yes to: A bill to prohibit discrimination on the basis of genetic information with respect to health insurance and employment.
He voted yes to: A bill to amend the Carl D. Perkins Vocational and Technical Education Act of 1998 to improve the Act.
He voted YES to: To provide $1,975,183,000 for medical care for veterans. (It was REJECTED).
He voted YES to: On Passage of the Bill H.R. 1268; An act making Emergency Supplemental Appropriations for Defense, the Global War on Terror, and Tsunami Relief, for the fiscal year ending September 30, 2005, and for other purposes.
He voted yes to: On Passage of the Bill H.R. 3; A bill to authorize funds for Federal-aid highways, highway safety programs, and transit programs, and for other purposes.
He voted yes to: On Passage of the Bill H.R. 6; To ensure jobs for our future with secure, affordable, and reliable energy. (My guess? Alternative energy. In 2005).
He voted no to: On Passage of the Bill S. 1307; A bill to implement the Dominican Republic-Central America-United States Free Trade Agreement. (It passed.)
He voted yes to: On the Joint Resolution H.J.Res. 52; A joint resolution approving the renewal of import restrictions contained in the Burmese Freedom and Democracy Act of 2003.
He voted no (again) to: On Passage of the Bill H.R. 3045; A bill to implement the Dominican Republic-Central America-United States Free Trade Agreement. (Which still passed)
I could continue, but the data's there. 279 total votes from 2004-2006, and 154 so far in the current Congress session...and he's voted one way or another on a majority of them.
I'm not even going to nitpick McCain's ideas, because I honestly believe that EITHER men would do a better job as President than Bush has done over the past eight years.
I just wanted to point at that the article you were using as a source is misguided at the least, and heavily biased at the worst. All of this is available here: http://obama.senate.gov/votes/
This is the best I can get on McCain's voting record (he's missed 61% of votes in the current session, by the way). http://projects.washingtonpost.com/c...m000303/votes/

Thanks for the excellent list. It is great to see someone doing research!
While I care what Obama voted yes and no to, I care more about bills that he sponsored. The link I provided is bias towards Obama as it is his and other Democrats writing it. I find it telling that he does't want people to have ID cards because tens of thousands won't vote due to the lack of getting out of their house to get one. Our elections are every two years and every 4 years for President. Isn't that enough time for people to get out of their house to get a State ID?
