So, whats the deal with book values. If a card has a book value of $25, what is it really worth?

lol.... well, you can probably expect anywhere from $4 to $40 for that one :-)

Seriously, the book value is a guide to selling your card. It gives a range within optimal conditions (i.e. I am selling a card of a local player when he is doing well), not an expectation of what you may receive on the open market. If it isn't autographed, I wouldn't expect near the top end of the cards list.

Most people would scoff at paying over 50% book value on anything. Some people may want a card so bad they would overpay. I know that probably doesn't help you, but that's the short answer!

also there is usually a high and a low BV, the high is usually used cards in good condition.

You can expect about 10%-25% more in a retail shop or card show

It's a 'GUIDE' That's all. Some guys who are hot sell at or over BV. Some busts and washed up people go for 5-10% of book if lucky..

Go after what you like and pay or give up what it's worth to you. That's my view..

Book value like others have stated are just a guide...

eBay is probably the most accurate way to see current market values, mainly because it reaches the biggest audience and the sales are all recent endings.

Depends who you talk to, but can use completed ebay auctions and such.
