    I dont get it.

Can somene please explain to me why some dealers think they can charge 3x to 4x BV for auto's and gu's. I live in Michigan and Detroit players sell very well in my area. Of course hometown boys alway sell better. But 3x to 4x BV is stupid. I been collecting for 20 yrs. I know a good deal when I see one. $30 for a Chauncey Billups gu or any gu is ridiculous, unless it is a Jordan or a very nice patch. The bv on most Piston or Tigers is usually $8 to $10. When I asked this dealer why so much he tried to tell me "thats what there worth" I laughed and decided to pull out my trusty Beckett. He quickly stopped me and said "I dont go by BV, I dont believe in price guides." This guy is at every show I go to and I wonder how he affords to pay table fees at $75 to $100 a pop. Every time I stop by his table he has the same old auto's and gu's. I guess he charges so much for cards so he can make up for his table fee's It's funny all the other dealers and I always laugh every time we see him set up his table and pay the fee's, to only go home again without making any money....... again.

Sounds like it's just that one specific guy, cause most dealers are willing to negotiate on the price. It's better to sell a card for lower than BV then not at all, if they think it's not going to sell. My dealer over here sometimes sells cards for higher than the BV but that's only cause he's more of a baseball/hockey card expert and doesn't know too much about basketball, but he is quick to change the price when I tell him the actual BV.

He must be near the front, so he gets all the novice collector's/kids who don't know any better....wrong? Yes. Unethical? Yes, but that's how it's done.
