    Going to college.....Maybe

Ok i am 27 years old with no job, married with 2 kids and thinking about going to college for the first time in my life. lol

Heres how it all came to be.

My mother in law works at a local college(small college) she happens to work in the building the gym is located at. Somehow she was in a conversation wit hthe basketball coach, he was saying how the team doesnt have much height. So my my moter li law says i have a 6 foot 10 inch son in law. HEs like give me his number i will call him next week.

A couple days later my father in law came up to me and says the college is going to call you, me not knowing anything about it was like HUH? lol HE said she didnt tel lyou i said tell me what. So they tell me all about it.

I laughed it off then Monday afternoon the phone rings, sure enough its the basketball coach wanting me to come to school so i can play basketball for him lol.

I told him i would look over the courses they offer there and see if anything interests me. http://www.umm.maine.edu/content/page.php?cat=2 here are the programs they offer. If i go i am debating on Recreation and Tourism Management with an ephasis on Sports and Fitness Management http://www.umm.maine.edu/content/pag...content_id=250

I am supposed to meet the coach next week and he is going to put me through a short skill workout, and talk with me. Ive been out of school for 8 years now and havent shot a basketball in a few years. I love playing basketball. Why couldn't this happen years ago? lol

HE had me fill out an application for Financial Aid, told me to fill out the online college application and have my high school send my transcripts to the addmissions office, i told him theres no way i can afford to pay for it as its like $12,000 per year. He said they may be able to throw in some athletic money to cover any differences in financial aid and the total cost.

I never took SAT's in high school so the coach said i wouldnt be able to play in games my first year, but could still practice with the team.

There alot of things going through my mind, the basketball side would be fun, just nervous about the actually school work portion of it lol. What if i go and fail?

What would you do if you were in my shoes< Opinions, and comments appreciated

    Thanks

What if i go and fail?

I don't mean to be too blunt, but if you fail, then you'll be exactly where you are now. Know what I mean? Hope that wasn't too blunt, but you have everything to gain and little to lose!

Just get that degree, have fun with basketball, and you'll just about always be able to find work.

Well i have been looking over requoirements, the school has a UNIVERSITY CORE REQUIREMENTS, its a bunch of courses you have to take no matter what your academic program is. Courses include Public Speaking(Yeah Right) A choice of 2 between music, art, writing and a couple other choices with one you have to choose performing arts

Then theres world history 1 and 2 physics and a load more that make up the UNIVERSITY CORE REQUIREMENTS.

No wonder i didnt go to college when i got out of high school. I have hard time speaking to 1 or 2 people let alone stand up in front of an entire class and talk.

Call me an idiot but i think the classes you HAVE to take should be about things your academic program is about.

So looks like college is out for me
