Cool Just had a fairly strong quake in SoCal...

All of a sudden, the condo seemed to jerk a couple of inches and the shaking lasted for only about eight seconds before tapering off. Preliminary reports put it at 5.8 at 11:42 am and centered around the Chino Hills or Diamond Bar area, which is about 35 miles east from me. No damage at all in my place. Expecting a few aftershocks now...

yeah I felt it too. I'm in la verne so we're like 9 miles from the epicenter and all my phones are dead including the cell phone which is kind of annoying.

Yeah, I was just able to get a call out on my cellphone a few minutes ago to my daughter. She just happens to be filling out a job application but she doesn't seem to be rattled at all by the quake. Still no reports of significant damage in the area, so that's cool.

It's been a long time since we've had a big earthquake. I thought when we did have one, it would be bigger than this one. Still, I'd much rather have an earthquake over a tornado or hurricane. Here's the earthquake report from the USGS.

I saw a bit of this on the news. Have there been reported injuries of any kind yet? It sounds like there hasn't, but want to make sure. I hope all our SCFers in the area are safe.
