A Problem With Ebay
well its no so much ebay but users on here and probably other sites. they say "i just won this on ebay, so now i need to sell stuff to pay for it" the problems i have with that is.....
A. they are begging us to give them money to afford there winning auction, yet get offended if there lowballed even though there desperate for money apparantly
B. they may not get the money and that person has to relist there item
C. they could be lying just to sell stuff, because people don't like there stuff, but may feel bad so they buy something from them.
while there is no rule against it, it just doesnt seem ethical to do so, i guess i think if your going to bid on something, you should have the money to pay right after you notice the auction has ended. what is everyone elses takes on this?Hidden Content

I think it highly depends on the circumstances but for the most part I couldn't care less wether or not they make a post like that.
A. Well I don't know if you are talking from experience or not, but if you are out there trying to lowball people who actually need the money, you are in no place to be talking about whats ethical and whats not. Honestly I don't think trying to rip people off is warranted in any situation.
B. I can agree with you here 100%, If anything people should refrain from doing it to protect the sellers.
C. I challenge you to find me one idiot (yes idiot) who would buy stuff from a guy because they feel bad for him. If you have the money to throw away for stuff you don't need in the first place I don't see what the problem is. Granted there are some exceptions i.e if you know the guy, you are freinds etc...
This is just my $2...

i don't personally lowball anyone, because if i do have money its like 4-7 dollars at a time, which i say i want the best 1-2 cards i can that i can get etc. im saying ive seen an i need money for a auction post, and a person did "lowball" the seller and the seller got mad, but the buyer said "you were desperate for money, i just told you how much i'd pay for it" and the buying something they dont want was meant towards knowing the person or something like that. and its not so much you dont need it, more of that you could go on without it

Like I said it really depends on the situation / circumstances. For example if someone makes a thread like 'I need money for auction' you can't just assume anything, I know because I have been in that position. It wasn't because I was careless and knew I wouldn't have the money beforehand it was because I didn't think I would win an auction and strangely enough I did. I no longer had the money, I spent it elsewhere on a copy of the same card. For all you know this guy is in that exact same situation right ? Now as far as the 'lowball' issue I'd say people know pretty well when they are doing so, It really depends on the card though. If Im selling a 30$ card and the guy offers me 10$, it's kind of low for some but it's acceptable. On the other hand you have people here when your selling a 200$ card and they come in and offer you 40$. It's easy to see how someone can get mad about that, especially when they are in desperate need for the money.

yea, i understand what your saying but when the person is saying i need 5-8 for an auction, im pretty sure they knew they had a good chance of winning on most days. on the lowball issue, i saw one now, that really just made me mad, the seller wanted 70, so the guy shows the lowest ebay auction he can find on the card (i hate when buyers only show the lowest, i would consider every auction and take the middle of it) and says since it sold at 52 here i'll offer 45, the seller replys best i can do is 60. so the seller says "no thanks, if i wanted it for the same price, i would buy it on ebay" that really just pissed me off, its like some people expect that since this isnt ebay, people will rip themselves off, its just rude to do that to me

Yeah for 5-8 bucks I will agree with you there, even if its really an emergency its not hard to get at all. On the other issue, I have experienced that more than once. The most recent being a steal I got on ebay, the guy said he would give me approx. 8% of BV because thats what the last one on ebay went for ! I won't disclose the amount here but if you want to know I'll send you a PM. I thought that was pretty ludicrous and then he got mad when I called him out for trying to lowball me. People need to understand that this is a trading site not ebay, STEALS happen on ebay, that dosen't mean it is the end all be all of sales. Then when they want to sell they don't even consider SV, they just want top dollar. I don't think we can do anything about it, and it seems to be getting worse.

i agree 100% and please pm me the details that you dont want to post here. it use to be "i want ebay prices" now its "i want lower than ebay" soon it'll be "i want 50% of ebay" i will sell for the right amount on ebay any day than to get lowballed here, even if its theres fee's involved. and the people who want lower than ebay are the people who just want to resale and make more money

Spending money you don't have seems to be the American way. :) We learn it from the government!

Bottom line, if you don't have funds, don't bid or buy it. Grow up.
