I hate this.. Is it just me?
Why is it that people post that they want to buy or trade, but are not willing to check buckets? They expect everyone to have a list, and then they want a picture of the card anyway before they will trade or buy it.
I personally also dislike with someone says they will not make an offer on a card, but then when you tell them what you want they say its to much. Why not cut the middle man and just offer what you are willing to pay for a card and stop looking for a seller desperate for cash or a kid that doesn't know what they have.
I use to love this site, but lately its all about getting a $100 card for $25, or trading 10 $10 cards in hopes of getting a single $100 card. When you trade up you need to offer at least 1.5 times the value in my opinion!
What happened to trading because you wanted a player you liked or a team you love? Now its all about getting one over on the other person for a more valuable card... ANY CARD IS ONLY WORTH WHAT SOMEONE IS WILLING TO PAY FOR IT! Lets put this hobby back in the real world, and bring the fun back to it Right now... the fun for me is gone!
OK... I'm done ranting . . . For now anyway.

Great post, I agree with most of your points other than one. I think people should always make lists, I hate trading because of buckets, they're so awful. People have so many things in so many different albums it makes it impossible to find what you want or see all they have, so why not make a list and save time (in the long run)? Then use your bucket to send a direct link to someone if they want to see a pic. When someone has a list that is like Atlanta Braves -> Autographs -> #ed -> 2005 -> Chipper Jones -> Fleer -> Showcase... it just turns me right away from looking at their bucket, the number of folders are insane. I'd prefer a list or a freewebs any day.

Excellent point, people are in it for money now, as much as they won't admit it. It's not just a coincidence everyone wants Adrian Peterson or Joba Chamberlain, they want to make profit for the future. I don't understand how people can get excitement out of collecting someone they don't know much about or don't even like. I enjoy collecting because I collecting my specifics, if I was collecting anything and anyone, I don't see where the fun would be.
Good post, thanks,
Jimmy

I agree with most of what you are saying but i like buckets. You get to see how the autograph or gu is etc...like joba chamberlain for instance. kist bowman chrome auto or whatever it is is horrible imo. but some of the other ones are very nice. i would want a list and say i like that and then end up getting a horrible looking autograph. i mostly go after rc's and propsect cards. plus i don;t care if a card is numbered /1000 or a 1/1. if a autograph is on it isn't that what you are paying for it? It is defiantly true that the hobby has turned and everyone is going after the most valuable cards. but it turns out that those prospects could turn into crap and no one wants them anymore!! Why would you spend $100 for a good josh hamilton rookie if he had a first great half, what if he crashes and becomes a nobody again?! That's why I mostly collect vintage and stuff like that that i don't have scanned!

Back in the mid 90s, I traded a 75$(at the time) Frank Thomas card to a card store for a Hideki Irabu Rookie Card. Ouch, right?
The card store owner was a ™™™™™™bag...obviously.
Ever since then, I've really despised the idea of paying for rookie cards. Matter of fact...When I come across good rookie cards, I always offload them for some cash or established guys. Sometimes, it works out in my benefit. I've sold cards that are worthless now for a nice piece of change when the player was hot. I've also burned myself a few times, too. I sold a sweet Adrian Peterson card for 6$ last year....I saw one go for 35$ the other day.
Anyways...on topic. Im not a big fan of buckets either. It's hard to find what you want. I like having a list of your cards for trade...then, on that page, the picture of the card (Check out my site...you'll see what I mean.) ANd while I have been guilty of not responding to PMs before....it does get quite annoying when it happens to me, hehe. It's because of that, that I've been doing a lot better.

i dont want to view buckets when putting a buylist because people who usually would want me to check there bucket dont meet the requirements i listed. lets say i have $10 to spend. i dont want to waste my time looking through 10 pages of 15-8bv cards. i dont need a full list, just a picture or a list of what you would sell for $10. im not to picky, i dont care so much on value, the value to me is like how Brett said, its how it looks, i think it personally creates more value of if i want it or not. no one wants an ugly card lets face it.
but i do agree with everything else you said. i dont own mid end or high end, so i dont ask to trade for it, its insulting to the other person to do so. i trade within my limits, but right now, i am in no hurry to trade with the "prospect frenzy"Hidden Content

I don't check buckets often because what I want is listed in my signaute. If you have it, I'll look. If not, I won't want anything.
As for the modern collecting, everyone is protective of their cards. I never try to pull one over on someone, but I will always try to get every bit of value out of my card, and I would expect the people I'm dealing with to do likewise.

It is impossible to sell on this site unless you have a fire sale or are selling at yard sale prices. I know, I've been here long enough to see that. 99% of this site expect people to just give you their cards for $1 without factoring in shipping charges. I hate it. I have had recently a member offer me $25 for my 05-06 SPA Chris Paul RC Auto.
I personally don't have a problem paying 50% BV of a card I need for my collection, I've done it plenty of times for my Sixer collection, and some people here are always willing to help me out and I understand that even though if nobody collects that player, I'm not expecting to pay 3% of the cards BV just because nobody wants it, if I want it bad enough, you will get a good deal. One mans trash is another mans treasure.

This site seems to have A LOT of prospectors. They all want Adrian Peterson and/or Darren McFadden. Clearly I am in it as a hobby (just look at who I collect). It annoys me b/c I'll post a looking for Edgerrin thread and I get no responses. Then I'll check someones trade thread (usually titled something like...I want to trade, its been awhile, etc...) and they'll have Edgerrin cards. They want everyone else to do all the work. Why not list the Edgerrins they have on the thread looking for them??? It is becoming impossible to make trades here. Most trade sites have an average of 10-15 posts per trade, this site seems to have a 20-30+. I see some prospectors w/ 400+ posts and not a single trade. Go to eBay to prospect then and TRADE here.

I agree with you on the fun out of the collecting for sure...I hate when the cards I collect in my pc they always want so I haven't taken almost 25 cp3s out of my bucket b/c people always say well what about that one I say nft. Anyway I think buckets are nice for autos/gu and PC as far as everything else make an organized list and if some1 want a pic just scan and then delete after u they decide or put it somewhere
I definatly hate how someone is always trying to run up on you when its you trading for something they say my tmac books 100 alone and you melos only book 120 combined....and u expect me to give u the tmac and two maggettes?
Umm I don't expect you too do anything u don't want to...I just thought if you want my melos that actually sell for what they books that maybe you tmac that sells for 50 and maggettes which i know book maybe 8 a piece is easly a fair trade...but u want too make sure ur not losing anything.....for your melo pc...well screw that
and then turn around and say u dont' have maggette auto and take it out of your bucket is just wrong.......anyway enough about that rant....
It's a hobby....people who shoot rockets for a hobby SPEND money to shoot rockets they can't simple trade people to continue their hobby for free after they put in a lil investment....people who collect china dolls don't just all of a suden expect to quit having to lose money for their person collection....Sometime coin collectors or stamp collector luck out and strike it rich or find a nice stamp for a good deal however every collector has a set (ie of lighthouse stamps, greek drakma(currency), or ty bennie bab
