Does a BGS 9 add any value?

To be honest on a modern day card the BGS 9 really holds no weight to me. Cards are supposed to be mint. Bgs 9 just reiterates that. Remember the condition of the book value for moden day cards are in MINT. Anything under that should book less. Now if it were a Barry Sanders rookie or Dan marino etc, then you'd have more SV and CV and BV etc.

Just checked the guide and this is true. An 8 (nm-mint) would be 100% of bv and a 9 (mint) would be 100%-200% of book value. This is according to beckett not the market.

If someone can buy all their cards in person or they are buying sets with little or no condition problems then grading isn't for them. There is also the problem with card doctoring that grading does offer some protection against.

A 9 should fetch full bv while a "raw" card described as mint will go for a little less. Seems like football collectors, for the most part, aren't big fans of grading. I'm not sure why this as I happen to love the fact that I know what I am buying will reflect the grade it has received.

Actually there is a bit of a lul in the Baseball Graded market too. It's actually beckett's fault. Them getting into that industry has really cheapened the market for that stuff. Truely veteran collectors who go through SGC , PSA , or GAI , bgs / bvg / bccg are where novice collectors go. There are too many of those too. So if you are one here is your wakeup call. HELLO beckett does the pricing for not only raw but for graded cards too. That in itself is too much of a conflict of interest that they already have shown based on their writing actions that they can absolutely not handle.

I would have to agree that BGS has taken over for Modern cards. I would be interested to see the numbers but i bet BGS does twice as much as PSA for 1990-present. I only see a strong PSA group for vintage cards.

I'd love to see those figures as well especially with modern football. IMO PSA might still have the edge for modern (all sports) due to their registries and $5.00 grading specials. If BGS doesn't have the modern lead they still are considered my most to be the top graders for that niche.
