    Universal Healthcare or Private Care?

I always find it interesting when people discuss how great universal health care is. I was searching the internet and found some great John Stossel Clips. Very interesting!

People think universal healthcare is great because they think they're getting something for free...mainly because that's what politicians tell them and, for some crazy reason, they actually believe them.

Why would you want an organization as inefficient and ineffective as government handling something as important as healthcare? Everyone complains about how badly the government handles everything, yet they want them to keep taking over more!

I agree. This show also woke me up to a few things.

First, everyone having insurance is a terrible idea. Like he states, when you don't know the costs you get everything so the prices remain high. Making the health care industry a competition vice an umbrella of insurance companies is the best idea. Being in the military I have had a socialist type medical system and it is not desirable.

Actually I am in the military and I like the healthcare plan we have. It is not the best one, though.

Ask the British and Canadians how much they like their systems. The best doctors still leave for their own practices because there's always paying customers for the best health care, leaving the "free" system with whoever is willing to take the relatively low pay the government will give them.

And the health care system the US military has gets steadily worse with each successive administration. Need money for a few new billion $$ bombers? You can always scrape a few more dollars out of health care!

True, but we still get good care for us and our families for free. I don't think it's as bad as you say. Could it be better? Yes.

We should get rid of the welfare system (except for those who are disabled) in favor of universal health care. As a country, we have an obligation to make sure everyone is at least getting some form of health care. We don't, however, have an obligation to pay people for sitting around and doing nothing all day.

Jay, that is true. Some of the people that stay at home can work, they are just to lazy and want to live off the government. I think that disabled and elderly people should get some assistance from the government

    Good Point.
Ill agree that healthcare is important to have and I am very lucky to have it myself but I dont want to be paying for the lazy to have heathcare as well. We all pay taxes to the government. The last thing I want to do is pay more money to the government so that people who are capable working can sit at home a get something for nothing. Why should I work harder to support someone sitting around and not working? Why Should I pay more money for a system that is lesser health coverage than I have now? It doesnt make sense to pay more for less.

Ill agree the many of the elderly have deteriorating health, little to no income, and lack of health care. Since many of them a physically unable to provide for themselves, it makes sense that someone should provide for them. The solution isnt to create universal healthcare for all, but to create a system where only qualified persons can participate.

For those who work but still cant afford healthcare subsidary programs from the government should be offered, but requiring everyone to participate in the plan would be foolish.

We live in a capitalist society. The free market economy allows insurance companies to charge whatever they feel for their services. From an economic standpoint I understand. Bussiness is bussiness. Medical care isnt cheap. It takes a couple dozen healthy people paying for insurance every month to pay a sick persons medical bills.

Just a thought here, but is the problem with healthcare/insurance or how much doctors charge for their services? Does healthcare need to cost as much as it does? Why does an ambulance ride cost a couple thousand dollars? Why do surgeries cost tens of thousands of dollars?

I could definately live with universal health care if it was funded by the money used for social services and not by higher taxes. If you get food stamps and universal health care that should be enough. But again, as the video shows, if you are not paying for the care you don't care what the doctors charge and it will be abused.
