Advice on quitting? the hobby..
Alright so a little background..
I was what I considered a "big" Grant Hill collector back in the 90's.. Which in reality wasn't so big. I did spend a chunk of my allowance on cards and stuff.. My best card was a BV$200 (at the time) 97-98 Grant Hill autographics. I probably stopped collecting cold around 99?
Fast forward to around a year or two ago, and I picked the hobby up again. This time I've got my own money to throw around and probably put in a lot more than I should have. I'm guessing somewhere around $5k into basketball cards over the last 2 yrs? Maybe more.
Now with money being a bit more tight and getting frustrated with the insane number of parallels and low numbered cards out there, I'm quickly losing interest.
For now I have started selling off some of my doubles, but I'm torn between letting go of my collection now while the getting is somewhat good (Hill still sells well, but that may change once he retires).. or is this something I'll regret in say 5 yrs? Of course there are no definite answers to that, but yeah.
I don't "need" the money.. As in, if I liquidated my collection, the cash wouldn't go towards anything in particular right now. That said, I can definitely envision my collection going for less than half as much if I wait to sell it a few years down the road, when Hill is out of the NBA and his collectors tire of him.
I'm sure some of you guys have been in the same spot, so what do you think? Any advice is appreciated.. This sounds cheesy but I just don't want to jump into anything and people speaking from past experience would help a lot.
I don't think I've ever posted it on here, but this is most of my hill collection (the base cards and lower end stuff i never bothered organizing).. I'm sure you guys are curious how that much money gets blown on Grant Hill..

Any help is great,
Mark

try putting it on ebay with a reserve bid so u dont have to sell it if you dont like the price if you dont then wait a while longer and try it again

dont use reserves... from my experience they dis-attract ( is that a word) bidders.

I would personally say sell now while he is still playing (well at least wait until the first week of the season) because if he retires, a lot of the fans will begin to lose interest! I also agree with sportzluver1 that the reserve deters a lot of bidders, what you could do is put it at a BIN with a best offer option, that way if you get your BIN then your happy or you can entertain some offers. Either way best of luck!

Just really depends on what you want to do. It doesn't sound like your worried about the money so I say put the cards up somewhere safe b/c you may find your way back to it again in several years. That's what happened to me when I quit collecting for ten years, but I ran across an old book of cards and was fascinated by them again.

personally I would keep them because I have sold all my stuff a couple differant times and I still come back,if you like collecting grant hill keep collecting him I still collect retired players although they are mainly hof`s I plan on leaving my colletion to my kids and hope they do the same.Anyway if you still enjoy collecting keep doing it,there are trade sites and places you can buy singles or sets,if you don`t want to spend alot on packs or boxes.Just do what you enjoy life`s to short lol.

Sounds like the ebb and flow of life, our interests all wain in aspects of our lives at sometime or other. I've stopped and started with cards (always seem to come back though).
Why not sell off the majority and keep those really special cards that where hard to get hold of ? That way if those regrets surface in five years time they may not be to bad.
Whatever you decide please finish that GOTG set....
