What is up with Beckett Grading?

I have vowed never to grade cards with Beckett again.

    Here are the reasons:
1)Sent a card to be graded. Got it back as a 7.5 overall. Busted it out of the case and sold it to a friend of mine. He sent it to be graded and came back a 9.0 overall. What is up with that?

2)Sent an Ultimate patch card to be graded. Returned to me as "fake." Gave the card away to a friend believing it was worthless. He sends it to Beckett and they authenticate and grade it a 9.5.

3)Pull a 3 color patch card out of 07 Donruss Classics. Returned by Beckett as a "fake". I pulled this card out of the pack myself. How did they determine this was a "questionable authenticity." AND they kept my money.

4)At the 2007 national in Cleveland, I submitted 40 cards to Beckett and they returned 15 as "questionable authenticity". Most of these cards were from the Absolute Memorabilia Absolute Patch Set. I sent these cards to Donruss who verified their authenticity and sent me documentation of the cards (card number, date, player and patch). I send them back to Beckett (who still has my money from the first time I submitted them). They have the cards for 4 months. Then they return them to me ungraded, unslabbed claiming they could not "reach" anyone from Donruss to confirm the authenticity of the paperwork I sent back with the cards (with Donruss letterhead and contact info). If Beckett can't reach Donruss, how could I get them on their 1-800 customer service number. AND they kept my money.

I am done with Beckett grading and anything having to do with grading cards. Is it just me or is the whole think just a crock.

No need to be done with Grading just be done with beckett. Also why are you getting patch cards graded. Just stick to old stuff and Rookie cards. Also use SGC they are the proven ACCURATE and CONSISTANT leader of the industry and unlike PSA or the triple alias BGS / BVG / BCCG they do not have any current moral ethic standard violations. Nor are they being questioned for their practices by the legal authorities like beckett and psa are. For the very same things you are complaing about. I hate to say like this but you are / were a sucker but be happy you have caught on to them. Most people who grade the newer stuff are all over beckett's rep they figure OOOH beckett says it it must be true. Or beckett grades so they must be the best. But that couldn't be farther from the truth. Unfortunately for most who grade with beckett they are like the majority and just do either as they are told or just don't do their research and they get took by two bit crimnal companies that are just out to make a few extra bucks like enron , beckett and others. Hey will just make up are own rules and who cares if the public gets wronged by us. Just so we can make a few extra profit dollars. Beckett is a joke people wake up. They are shady at best and luckily for them not a publicly traded company or then down right crimnal and in violation of several fair trade practices.

I have used SGC in the past and have always been very happy with there consistency. I understand PSA has been around longest but have heard way to many story's about the best grades being given to the people that spend the most. Beckett I have a problem with because of there BCCG grading. I can understand having a vintage arm to a extent but I have no idea what BCCG is. Can anyone tell me what the hell that stands for and if it's like discount slabbing or something?

    Beckett

For the dude who told me I am a complete sucker...you are so right.
I was still new to the hobby and assumed that was the best way to go. It took me several attempts to realize that Beckett was a crock. I wanted to grade the patch cards because I was starting to realized how many doctored and fake patch cards there were out there flying around, so I wanted to authenticate the patch cards. However, I soon found out that whether they were "good" or not, you could not trust Beckett to know this. I started going directly to the card company to ask and honestly just stopped buying patch cards.

Thanks for the advice about SGC. There are several cards that I just want to have slabbed for long term protection and I will probably just go with SGC because I am tired of giving free money to Beckett.

Also, I did call Beckett directly and explained to them what had happened. They nicely told me there was nothing more they could do for me, but they could not refund my money.

I'd contact the BBB (Better Business Bureau) and then let Beckett tell them they won't do anything. If they don't resolve it to your satisfaction they get a ding from the BBB. I'd really do some complaining!!!!

BGS dropped the ball on this and they seem to have some trouble with the patches.

What were the subs on the 7.5/9?

Maybe the grader saw something that was not there the first time and that's why it scored a 7.5. All three of the major grading services make mistakes like this from time to time. The patches make grading even more difficult as it's something new they need to look for.
