Any other Americans offended - Olympics 2012?
Personally, I find it very offensive that the Olympic committee has voted to get rid of baseball and softball for 2012. Why? Because the US women dominate softball:
The I.O.C. decision will affect thousands of players around the world, but make no mistake, this vote was aimed at the United States - a backlash against the lopsided dominance of women's softball and the perceived arrogance of the men's baseball. So, we will have trampoline, ping pong, synchronized swimming and other obscure sports, but no baseball or softball in 2012? This is as anti-American as things come and I will be NOT watching the Olympics in 2012. There are plenty of sports that are dominated by a countries. Do we start getting rid of them as well?

Other countries should literally step to the plate in softball. If we use that logic, women's basketball should also be ended since our women demolish everyone.
The "perceived arrogance" in baseball is stupid. I readily admit that USA is not the best baseball country. The competition is fantastic! USA, South Korea, Japan, Cuba, the Dominacan Republic etc. all have a chance. Let's end sprinting since Jamaica dominates that.
And swimming should end, too. Sorry, Michael Phelps.

I agree. Can't beat us, so remove us? ™™™? Instead of removing sports, concentrate on removing bias judges and investigating underage participants (cough Chinese gymnastics).

That's nuts....are they going to tell Lebron that he can't play on Team USA cuz he's too good, or Phelps he can't swim cuz of his 8-for-8 performance?

Since there are so many stupid people who think that the US dominates softball so it should be taken out and that the US can dominate baseball even without all-stars there and should be taken out because of that, then the first thing that comes to my mind is the 1980 Winter Olympics in Lake Placid, New York. Everyone remembers the miracle that Team USA pulled off, beating the Soviet Union. But if dominating a sport is reason or not having all-stars play in the games is enough to get a sport taken out of the Olympics, then there never would have been that miracle that most everyone remembers. So if hockey is still a big event in the Winter Olympics and there was an underdog who defeated the dominant team, why can't that happen in baseball or softball some day. I don't want that to happen, but anything obviously could happen.

I heard this while watching the softball event briefly and was definitely annoyed. At least they aren't getting rid of it permanently, but all the girls in their prime in 2012 will not have a chance now to medal! That is not fair.

What is scary is a lot of this is starting to happen in America. In the past few years, there are little league baseball leagues that are resetting scores that get out of hand and giving the winners and losers the same size trophies as not to hurt the feelings of other kids. In Hawaii, my daughter's report card does NOT have A, B, C, D and F grades. It is "Always", "Sometimes", etc. I just heard on the radio that a California school vote NOT to give a kid a bad grade for incomplete UNTIL the it is confirmed that the parent didn't assist. So, if a kid goes to school with incomplete homework, the school sends it back home for "one more try" to see if the parent can assist before giving a bad grade.
I don't expect Americans to raise Spartan children, but we are sure starting to act like this Olympic committee. :(
