New Ebay Seller Fee Structure
I got a message from Ebay talking about their new seller fee structure. There are a lot of changes, but I see these as the biggest:
- 35˘ Fixed Price Insertion Fee regardless of item price or quantity
- 15˘ Fixed Price Insertion Fees for Books, Movies & DVDs, Music, and Video Games; 5˘ holiday special for some listings
- Fixed shipping fees!
- Limits on shipping and handling charges for some categories: Starting in October, limits on shipping and handling charges will be in effect for select categories. These maximums apply to the first flat-rate shipping service within or into the U.S. Sellers are required to offer at least one shipping option within the maximum and may also offer other options above the maximums for expedited or international shipping. Sellers can still use the shipping calculator to charge actual costs at or below the maximums or if their listings are not standard—e.g., if you're selling an unusual large/ or heavy item, or a bundle—you can also use the shipping calculator to charge actual costs. See FAQs for more details.
- Special incentives for free shipping: We're offering major incentives to sellers for offering free shipping during the holidays. From October through December, for listings with free shipping we'll include a free subtitle upgrade—or Value Pack for just 35˘—to highlight this benefit in your listing. PowerSellers will get double their Final Value Fee discounts. As always, listings with free shipping get an extra advantage in search results.
It will be great if people are forced to actually charge what it cost to ship! I think Ebay sees members trying to get away fees by charging more for shipping.
Thoughts?

Ebay is quickly becoming a joke with some of their rules. I can't wait to see those SCF storefronts.
I'm curious to see if they will apply a flat shipping price for single sports cards. I like to sell low end cards on ebay, but it may not be worth it anymore.

you forgot the part where you are no longer allowed to accept cash, check, or money order. They just love getting that extra paypal money on every sale.

I like all these changes, personally. Check/money order becomes a hassle as a seller, and as a buyer, overpriced shipping becomes annoying at times.

It is in the main link. I just posted the changes I felt had the most impact; shipping fees and listing fees! :)

I have mixed feelings. As a seller, charging slightly more in the shipping does help offset paypal/ebay fees tremendously. I don't mind other sellers having slightly higher shipping fees for that reason too actually as the only cost that matters is the final cost (cost + shipping fee). So I don't like eBay setting limits on shipping just so they can make more money on the listing fees.
I don't mind the paypal only as I don't like getting checks or money orders anyway.
I do like the buy it now 30 day listing for 35 cents only. That'll allow me to sell more things.

If you look at the details, the maximum shipping charges apparently only apply to Books, Music, DVDs & Movies, and Video Games. For single CDs and DVDs it's $3 and for single video games it's $4, and they have different accessories and what not that fall into those categories set differently. I like that move...I've sold many CDs, DVDs, and video games and that's what I usually charge for shipping, if not less...so I know for a fact that still covers packing and fees.
As for the no longer taking check or MO, I think that's wrong. I don't accept or send either, but if a seller wants to, why shouldn't they be able to? They didn't make you accept it before, so if you didn't want the hassle, you didn't have to. Just making sure they get as much of your money as possible...

I primarily use paypal myself, but to require it has to be an issue with either a monopoly (if you consider ebay and paypal one company) or colusion (if you consider them seperate). My dollar bill says "for all debts, public and private". To tell me that my money is only good if it goes through their system and gives them a cut cannot be legal.
