I know, received this wonderful news back in July :(
That's why I really hoped Mike-SCF would have SCF's storefronts up & running so we could test, tweak, basically get a head start.
Checks and money orders no longer allowed
What's changing with payments on eBay?
Beginning in late October 2008, checks and money orders will no longer be allowed as payment methods on eBay. All items appearing on eBay.com must be paid for using either:
* PayPal (funded by PayPal account balance, credit card, debit card, bank account, PayPal Pay Later, PayPal Buyer Credit or eBay gift certificate)
* Credit or debit card payment to a seller (through a seller's Internet merchant account)
* ProPay
* Payment upon pickup
In January 2009, all of the approved electronic payment methods will be integrated into eBay checkout. For example, if a seller offers credit or debit card as a payment option, buyers will be able to directly enter their credit card information securely in eBay checkout and their payment will be directly routed to the seller's Internet merchant account.
We are also working with other electronic payment providers currently included in our Accepted Payments Policy to integrate their services into eBay checkout in 2009.
Learn more at the Payments Overview Page.
Are there any categories excluded from these payment requirements?
Vehicles (Motors), capital equipment (Business & Industrial), Mature Audiences and Real Estate will be excluded from the new payment requirements. Specifically, the following categories will be excluded:

PS: This was originally slated for Australia first in ~ Feb 08 IIRC, but they shot it down due to personal information requirements associated with Paypal.

PayPal sides with the buyer 95% of the time. While no money order or checks is good, PayPal still has flaws.

I mainly use pp on stuff i buy and sell anyways. Saves a trip to the Post Office..
I usually skip by a seller who doesnt take pp, unless i rly want the item..
Speaking of.. i have a buyer (get this).
They are from Germany... They say they cant send me money either thru pp, M/O, or check.. So i give into the request for bank transfer. They say they sent money a week later no money (in the mean time i have a dispute open for NPB) i close it after almost a week after he said he sent the transfer... The day i close the dispute on my end he opens one up saying he hasnt rec'd his stuff... Im like duh if i dont get my money you aint getting your auctions...

I personally like money order better- it helps me ration and keep up with my purchases better. Paypal + Me = Nasty Bank Disaster, quite often...
So this change has got me steamed!

I also do not like or use paypal. When i got a message saying that to use their service I must give access to my checking account as well as a CC number,(to be verified-after 7 years on eBay with perfect feedback) its bye bye paypal. So no money orders will prevent me from buying from probably 85 to 90 % of eBay sellers, and even the 10 to 15% of merchant accounts by January 2009 will have to go through eBay checkout (paypal).
I was collecting cards before eBay and will after. eBay has made a bad policy here and the number and amount of bids will decrease.

The real reason is so that Ebay can double dip on fees, since pretty much everyone will now have the paypal fees to deal with, as well.
I also noticed they are putting caps on the amount of shipping you can charge in some categories. For example, to ship in the CD category, it is a max of $3.
