Shareef Abdur-Rahim retires
SACRAMENTO, Calif. -- Sacramento Kings forward Shareef Abdur-Rahim retired Monday because of a persistent right knee injury.
The 31-year-old Abdur-Rahim played 12 NBA seasons for four teams, beginning his career in 1996 when the Vancouver Grizzlies made him the third overall draft pick. The 2002 All-Star averaged 18.1 points, 7.5 rebounds and 2.5 assists in his career, but the power forward reached the playoffs just once, with the Kings in 2006.

Yeah, he was a very good player. 18.1 ppg career average isn't too shabby. Came out of that famous 96-97 rookie crop along with Kobe, Nash, Iverson and the rest of those guys.

yeah, go figure that! He was third overall....all those guys came after him! Nash was 7th or so, Iverson 9th and Kobe 13th I believe....I could be wrong though....but still, he was taken ahead of them! lol

And you are
Iverson was #1. And Nash was actually around 15th. But Shareef was a good player.

Yup, but then again, Kobe didn't start playing like Kobe until his 2nd year. So at the time, people were praising the Hornets. I also remember Marbury and Ray Allen swapping teams. Shareef was a good player, just spent many years on bad teams, Grizzlies, and then with the Hawks

I always felt like he never lived up to his full potential, or he was underappreciated, or something. But that may be just because the first time I ever pulled a decent autograph card, it was one of his. I'm a little disappointed he's leaving.
