07-08 Target Pu Pu Platter Basketball
You know you're a card addict when....
you go to the local Target to buy retail packs ten minutes before the closing time of 11pm b/c you can't wait for your Artifacts hobby box to come in the mail. (I have no local card shop.)
First box of Target's Special Pu Pu Platter (4 Packs & 100 Cards plus bonus!):
The ABSOLUTE highest value card was a Fleer Ultra Scoring Kings Gilbert Arenas, BV: $1.50. Shoot me in the head, I know generally you get what you pay for, but isn't this a little bit absurd?
Second box of Target's Cleveland Steamer Value Box (same deal, 4 packs, 100 cards plus bonus!):
Stadium Club Beam Team Deron Williams
Magic Johnson Stadium Club base (THE AIDS CARD)
DJ Strawberry Notable Newcomer Hot Prospects
Jordan Farmar Ultra Stars
Corey Brewer RC Bowman Chrome
Ok, that's a little better....at least I got the BV of two boxes back with that second box.
And oh yeah, those 100 cards? The ultimate pupu platter, too bad to even put into words. I'm still laughing at how terrible these cards are. Definitely a throwback good laugh though. I forgot that Antoine Carr played in the NBA once.....Big Dog.....Last edited by ramenooodle; 09-23-2008 at 01:00 AM.

Tough break.. You have to make 1 mistake with those retail "SPECIAL PACKS" to learn a lesson. I've stopped buying retail junk after the first time I bought some..

Yeah definitely stay away from those 4 pack Target things. If you want to find some variety packs try the ones at Toy's R' US, they sometime offer decent breaks.

I feel you man.
Those '4 pack + 100 cards' Target things are terrible. My bro bought a basketball one out of curiosity a while back, and the results were laughable - all base with a few worthless, early '90s inserts. Never again with those.
I also once bought a package guaranteeing $50 BV in cards (for $9.99). I pulled some crap inserts from the early '00s of total scrubs. Ended up being just over $50 in BV when I checked a while ago, so they didn't lie. I think the cards I got are sitting at the bottom of a shoebox in my closet.
I've seen people pull some decent stuff out of those types of retail packages, but its so rare its not even worth trying more than once.
I definitely learned my lesson with them.

if any of the base are late 70s, early 80s topps, I'd trade for them.

I cant complain. I once went to target and bought one of the packs that says guaranteed auto card. I pulled a D. Rob auto BV150. Cost me 10.00 plus tax. I was happy. That is all I buy anymore. On the rare occurrence I go in and see a deal like that.
