Russian Navy ships head to Venezuela
Russian Navy ships head to Venezuela
Does this scare anybody else? Venezuela was already a pretty shady place and now apparently Russia has their back. And with all the election coverage and the economic situation, this seems to be overlooked for the most part.

Imagine how the Russians feel with our ships in the Persian Gulf and Mediterranean Sea (I believe).
True...plus the plans for a missile defense post in Poland. But our ships have been in the Persian Gulf and that area for a long time...it's not like we're just now moving them over there.

And now, Russia has extended to Venezuela a $1 billion line of credit to buy Russian weapons: Venezuelan, Russian presidents meet. This just keeps getting better and better...and still ignored.

Well Hugo Chavez is very outspoken against America...doesn't like us and likes to cause problems basically. His government is socialist bordering on communist strongly backed by the military. He openly supports other Latin American countries to develop socialist/communist governments and economies. He is seen by Washington as a threat to democracy in Latin America.
And Russia is upset with us about the Georgia conflict and how we backed Georgia when apparently they instigated the whole situation with an unprovoked attack on Russian peacekeepers in a jointly governed(?) area. Aside from that, everyone has been keeping their eye on Russia after Medvedev was "elected" President, but everyone knows that Putin is basically still in control of the country and Medvedev is essentially just a puppet.
It's just a lot of things coming together between two countries that really don't like us and brings some big guns controlled by these countries a lot closer to us. It may all be one big coincidence, but it's definitely something that needs to be watched. And I'm sure it is in the right circles, but with all the coverage of the economy, oil prices, the election, etc, the media reports very little on it.
