Football Marketing Poll
Would appreciate your participation and comments in this poll.
Even before the card companies started inserting premiums in packs - chase cards,SPs,redemption cards, memorabilia cards, autographed cards, etc., various premiums were part of the marketing landscape. You could win a trip, a financial prize, etc.
What is your opinion about offering a chance for the purchaser to win various items of sports memorabilia should they purchase a specific product?
Example. A DVD is being released featuring the life and achievements of a great athlete. Each package contains an entry coupon - via internet, for a draw featuring prizes ( related memorabilia ) to be held six months after the release date.
Comment - instant winner approach is not an option since the grand prize may then be won on the first day and this would kill the promotion since the idea is to give every purchaser an equal chance.

I would be for the instant winner. It's the same scope as a 1/1, or 5/5 if you have 5 instant prizes.

I think it's an interesting idea, but probably not one that would make me buy that product. The way their adding in all different kinds of things these days, why not...it's something novel and different and does provide incentive to purchase the product.
But, using your 6 months from release date example, it gives incentive to buy the product up until then, but does nothing for beyond the 6 month period. Obviously that's when the majority of the product will be sold, but there are still many people that buy beyond that date, and it does nothing for them. And if you push the draw date further back (and maybe even at 6 months), people would lose interest because you have to be patient. A lot of people go for the instant gratification...that's why redemptions are not popular.
As long as the product was worth buying without that specific promotion, it probably wouldn't be such a big deal...for example if a box came w/3 hits along with that promotion, there would still be incentive to buy the box even if someone wasn't interested in that promotion. I think as long as it would be added as an extra and not replace any of the hits already available in that set (or if it's a new set, still have other hits available), then it would be something a lot of people would go for. Obviously not everybody, but nothing is 100%.
