Dirk Nowitzki considering retiring in 2011?

With three years left on his contract, Dirk Nowitzki is already considering hanging up his Nikes in 2011 after 14 seasons, at the age of 33. Via Z, here's Dirk in a Q&A with the Ft. Worth Star-Telegram: "I think the worst thing that athletes can do is play too long and at the end look slow and don't look right and they lose some of their reputation. I want to play when it's fun, but when I have to get up in the morning, everything hurts and I have to go to work, if that's my mentality, then I'd rather quit and do something else."

    -----

I understand what he's saying - plenty of people play too long, and it just looks worse on their career. Go out on top, or at least when you can still play, not when you're forced to retiring because of injury or because noone will sign you.

I doubt it, especially if he doesn't end up winning a championship within those three years. The last thing he'll want to to do is look back at his career and know that he could've played another 2-3 years and attempt to win a championship, but didn't because he didn't want to ruin his career statistically.

I believe this will be his 10th season coming up. He won't win a championship with the Mavs...

    Good.

    Bye,Dirk!

Don't hate him personally, but just the way he plays. He drives me nuts watching him awkwardly stumble all over the place and whine when he doesn't get a call. He's such an NBA-driven superstar it's not funny.

The Mavs came as close to a championship as they will in 2006....they won't be back for years. If he wants to win a ring, he needs to start looking at going elsewhere.

Man, the players from the 1990s are either disappearing, or will in not too long..J-Will just retired, and he started the same year as Dirk (1998-99 lockout season). But it is 2008 already..time goes by faster when one gets older. : /

Yep, I agree...Kevin Durant, the ROY of last season, is younger than me....Kevin Love, the Wolves rookie, is 2 days older than me....next year will be odd for me, cuz I'll be older than most of the draft class
