Backed into a cement parking pillar

Was pulling into a Stewarts store (very small parking lot) and I decided to back into a spot, based on how I entered the "parking lot".

Next thing I know bang! I have a nice sized cylindrical shaped dent in my back bumper Sorry no pics

I swear I didn't even see it, or them for that matter. I've been to this store hundreds of times with no problems. I walk into the store and asked "when did those get put there!"

The lady said they had just done them a few days ago. My beef is.....they weren't painted yellow or whatever color I thought they should be marked, the project wasn't completed maybe? They are the same darn color as the store, I couldn't see them.

Basically I'm wondering if anyone knows if I have a case here. It's probably only a few hundred dollars worth of damage if that, but I always like to see if it's someone elses fault first

I will be talking to my lawyer later today just in case.

I don't have a problem fixing my mistake, I was just curious to know if these should have been painted or not.

I am not a cop or something like that But I think they should be painted so people can be more careful. Also, they can use the argument that you backed up without looking first.

way to provide a quality answer! I guess saying I don't think you have a case because it was your fault would've been too much typing for you.....instead you feel the need to belittle the poster....great example set by a great moderator!

Me personally, I think you might have a case, but the filing fees and lawyer fees would FAR outweigh any monetary compensation you might receive from the business.

My lawyer is actually a good friend so if it wasn't a big deal he would go ahead take care of things for me. I actually just drove by this Stewarts a few minnutes ago, and boy I tell ya, if I took a picture of this place one would be hard pressed to see these things, even though they are about a foot in diameter and about 3-4ft tall. IDENTICAL color as the building. And as mentioned I've parked here hundreds and hundreds of times; I had no idea they even put these cement pillars in.

I am a very good driver with no accidents in the last 10 years or so, that's why I'm looking to pass the blame here lol.

My truck is a 1996, so it's really not that big of deal with me, I may or may not even get it fixed.

Anywho, good luck with the possible lawsuit. Having a lawyer friend must come in handy. Just calling a good lawyer if you didn't know them firsthand would cost you more than the damage to the truck, lol.

I'm curious if painting things yellow or whatnot is a law or just a commonly done action, let us know when your lawyer friend gets back to you.

Yeah I didn't take any offense to it, I'm pretty sure it was just some friendly sarcasm, no biggie.

Well, my friend at work had to go to the machine shop to pick up some stuff, so I asked him to drive by and get a picture with his phone, here it is.

Picture a SUV, backing up, factory tint windows, and never realizing they put these in after a million times of parking there. Of course one of the very few times I ever "backed" in to one of these spots (the evil pillar on the far right).

Oh well, I'm not reporting this or anything, so I fix it out of my pocket, or I leave the dent in my back bumper. Attached is recent photos of my 1996 truck as well, don't have picture of dent, just showing yall to get an idea of the tint. And heck, since the picture was next to it, see how I'm riding dirty!
