Hmm I've used movie maker to make a few movies in my day. What exactly are you trying to do? Cut a certain point out of a clip to just get a highlight? If so, here is what you should do:
1. Import the movie clip into Movie Maker.
2. Drag it into the Movie Maker bar at the bottom.
3. On the left and right of the clip at the bottom, there are ways you can pull it and minimize it down to where you want it. All you have to do is drag to the points you want and it should cut the clip. LMK if this doesn't work.

When I use movie maker, I have it set up so that when I import video it adds it to the library frame by frame. I can add only the frames I want instead of having to shrink the whole clip at the bottom of the screen. It takes a little bit more time but the final product is well worth it in the long run.
