NEW PSA Grade Comin' Get Ready for PSA 11
Yes..I understand PSA is ready to unveil a new and exciting rating for their sports cards. The genuine MINT of MINT .... PSA 11!!!
I will say upfront that I'm not a graded card person...have a few..but just to justify how nice my sets really are. But maybe it's me and my deep cynical beliefs in corporate america these days...but I just have to wonder what the grading companies are gonna do next.
I have found it interesting that in about 1997 or so....if you got some 1960's or early 70's cards in PSA 7, people were snappin' them up. You NEVER saw 1971 PSA 8's...damned near NEVER.
OK...time goes buy the PSA buyers have their Nm cards. Then around 1999...DOOPS...LOOK...wow there are some PSA 8's now. "I gotta get the better stuff now". Never saw a PSA 10 in sight. Maaaaaaybe a few 9's.
2002....Geeze Look at all the PSA 9's. Amazing how they just keep showin' up!! Where were they before? Just amazin'. The PSA chasers chased those....
2004...WOAH...I"m goin' for perfection!!! I'll pay for those PSA 10's. Here they are...lots of 10's in new stuff...and now even some old stuff.
In the mean time...I've seen 1973 PSA 9's NOT sell for $3 on eBay and 1971 PSA 7's have gone for $4 or not sold for $7.
Lets do the math. I have a really nice card. I pay $8 to grade it. I pay maybe $2 for postage (unless you really get a bulk). So I paid $10 to get it graded....it's a really nice card....It's a PSA 8......and I get $5 for it on eBay.
To me I just spent $5 to give away my really nice card. As a buyer...I'll take that deal and HAVE...that's how I have my PSA cards. It's just too bad that one can't simply have a nice scan, spend a moment to give a fair description (and give a refund opportunity just in case)...and then you could make some money and the collector still gets a really nice card.
I find it curious to know just what PSA is going to use as a marketing/business plan when they have the market flooded with PSA 10's and they can sell for $3 each. That's why I BET a PSA 11 is not far from reality. It's a joke of course, tongue in cheek...but am I off base here?
It just seems it's like the dog chasin' it's tail like people did with Insert cards in the 90's...now look where that hobby is. I understand for high dollar cards it would be good to have some kind of standard...but don't fool yourself. On those...that's where the scams come from, big time PSA customers get the "breaks"..that's just business. I recently looked at a few of my PSA cards and compared some of them....I just chuckle. I have a PSA 8 1971 George Blanda that should be a 7 at best and a 1975 Yount RC PSA 7 and can't figure out how it didn't get an 8 (compared to Blanda).
Well...that was fun.....but when you see the new PSA 11 grade announced with great fan fare...please remember IT WAS MY IDEA!!!!

Do you have a link to any kind of report on this or is this just something you heard from a guy who heard from a guy's brother at the card shop?

BTW Where are you seeing all these 8's and 9's go for $3, on ebay Ive been chasing 8 and 9 Tito Franconas and Rocky Colavito's commons from the 60's and they always sell over $100 sometimes $200 have s4een some $50 bv high numbers go for $300+ as well.

Yeah..but the Spinal Tap reference is a wonderful call. All good ideas have a seed I guess.
I recently bought 2 1972 high number PSA 8's (commons...not stars) ...1 was 2.48 and the other 1.99. I also picked up 2 PSA 8 1968's for 3.99 each.

OH..and I might say...indeed with no disrespect intended..but Haggard could serve as just the target for that kind of marketing. It just some people who may get so involved in the passion for what their collecting, that they loose site of what the reality is. I understand there are single packs of cards that sell for $50 or more. IF that is so....we have truely lost our common sense, have we not? Open up the pack and toss the "commons" away. That whole thing just boggles my mind. If I have to make a house payment...I sure as hell am not buying 4 $50 packs of cards. Just my take... and thank you for your time.
