2008 Card Season - Your imput desired

Well its the end of the Season for 2008 Cards and its time for the replys for Press Pass. Once again I am working with Les to send to the Director of Marketing trying to get him real feelings from the collectors. This is your chance to tell what you think of the products from 2008.

Try to think of things like:

    Best/worst Product (Looks, price, pulls)
    Best/worst insert
    Best/worst Raceused
    Best/worst Base cards
    Ideas for new products.
Any changes you would like to see.

Any overalll opinion on anything related to the cards, above all be honest in your opinions.

I know it seems like when we all have something to say that and no one will listen. BUT I know for a fact that over the last five seasons, with Les working with Tom that the input people have given to us has went into Press Pass. And they have put some of the ideas to use! So your opinion does count, give your honest opinion (good or bad). Lets all remember that if they do not know the problems they can not fix them. And if they do not know what is going good they may change it.

    Thanks everyone,

    Mike

I have been sitting on this for a while. One of the cards I am just dying to even see is the 2000 Maxximum Signatures Dale Sr./Dale Jr. dual autograph. It got me thinking, I would love to see this in a new release. They had alot of them in that particular set. I'm talking about family autos. I'd give it a name like "family ties" or something. Of course you would have to include cut autos for some of the late drivers. Here would be my list

Dale Earnhardt, Dale Earnhardt Jr., Kerry Earnhardt(?), Jeffrey Earnhardt(?)
    Bobby, Terry, Justin (?) Labonte
    Ned, Dale, Jason (?) Jarrett
    Lee, Richard, Kyle, Adam Petty
    Bobby, Donnie, Davey Allison
    Darrell, Michael Waltrip
    Jeff & Ward Burton
Kevin & Delana Harvick (for me, of course LOL)
    Rusty, Mike, Kenny, Chrissy(?) Wallace
    Benny & Phil Parsons
    Bob, Fonty, & Tim Flock
Bill Sr., Bill Jr., & Brian France
    Glen & Jon Wood
    Geoffrey, Todd, Brett Bodine
    Brad & Brian Keselowski
Mario & John Andretti (BIG ????)
    Buck & Buddy Baker
    Kurt & Kyle Busch
    Jeff, David, Mark Green
Coo Coo, Sterling, & Steadman Marlin
    Rick & Casey Mears
    David & Larry Pearson
Johnny, Jim, Jay & Tim Sauter
    Cale & Lee Roy Yarborough
    Elliott & Hermie Sadler
    Ken & Ron Bouchard
    Tony Eury Jr. & Sr.

I know some of the names are WAY out there!! But the point is that there is more than enough to be able to do something with. I can bet the Dale/Dale Jr. ones would be a gold mine if someone got one. Hey, it's just one mans opinion though.

    Lets get something new going....

Being a Card Collector for just over 12 years I have a few ideas that I'd like to input with the hopes that maybe one day I can say,
" Hey, That was my idea"

Nascar is a family sport, or for my family it is anyhow.

    Me,My Kids(Ages 10,14,21),My Dad & Nephew(11) Are Jeff Gordon Fans
Mom & another Nephew(6) are Jimmie Johnson Fans
    Sister 1 like Kasey Khane
Sister 2, and both Brothers are Jr' Fans
Another Nephew(8) is a Matt Kenseth Fan
Another Nephew(9) is a Kevin Harvick Fan
    Grams a Tony Stewart Fan
    9~17~20~24~29~48~88

I'd like to see some Family Oriented Cards, Action Packed did it in the Mid 90's, I remember 1 Card in particular that had Chase Elliott behind the Wheel of Bill's car. Lets get to know our drivers on a more personal level by producing cards with their children, you see them at the track, lets put them in the cards, one day you may hold a card in your hand of a top driver when they were 2-3 yrs old. Same with the wives, they're always there on pit road, on the war wagon, etc...etc...

Personal Autographs would be nice, It would have to be a redemption program which I know can be a hassle, but wouldn't it be cool to have an Autograph that reads...

    Your Name
    Best Wishes
    Your Driver

May sound corny but you asked for opinions and thats a couple of mine.

    Now for Requests,
    MORE PLASTIC
I can't speak for everybody, but for me,
    I LOVE THE PLASTIC CARDS,
    Full Throttles, American Muscle, etc....etc....
Save More Trees, produce more plastic insert sets.

A Set that I'd like to see has sort of already been done,
    Eclipse Racing Champions.
I'd like to see a Victory Circle Set,
One Plastic Card of each winner in the winners circle just as the exit the car.

Would also like to see a set like this one to show off the Trophies.
A Lot of races you don't ever see the trophy, and some of the trophies awarded are pretty awesome.

Well, enough ramblin' theres a few ideas to knock around...

hmm-well over the last few yrs I will say that Press Pass has improved so much-2008 was the best year for racing cards ever.

I tend to like these guys ideas-make a set or at least an insert set with the driver's familys or the drivers and their wives-its that personal connection we feel with the drivers that makes Nascar great.

I love the plastic cards too-they are cool. I know for next yr they are doing diff levels of the 4 wide which will be cool-im wondering if its possible to do a card with 5 pieces of memorabilia on it. Thatd be sweet.

Another thing I think would be cool-Ive seen other sports do it-if its an oversized piece of something on the card-have the driver sign it-in basketball and football theyve been doing signed patch cards-on the patch itself-for a few yrs. Get an oversized tire card and have the driver sign it in white or silver-thatd be sweet.

Now a few ideas for some insert sets:

Trademarks-a set where the driver is performing their trademark move or action-ie-Carl doing the backflip, Kyle Busch doing the bow, Jimmies frontstretch burnout with the flag in hand, or Jeff Burtons old school no donut reverse lap-that kinda thing.

Comeback Kids-common insert set-thered be one for every race-the card would be of the driver who made the biggest comeback in each race-even if he didnt win-like Jimmie Johnson at Atlanta would get the card for that race etc.

Paint Frenzy-or something like that-holofoil card with an awesome picture of a drivers unique or alternate paint scheme used within the last yr-a silver holofoil card with Jrs Grey Ghost car for instance would scream cool-other paint jobs-Jrs camo one at Daytona, Carls Aflac scheme, Numerous ones from Kyle Busch, Jimmie Johnsons 600 scheme, Jeff Gordons Nicorette scheme etc.

Temper Temper-Come on we need a set that showcases the best fights or disagreements between drivers!! Wed love it-make the set with a boxing ring setting or feel and put a picture or something into it-like the Carl/Harvick thing!

Ridin High-showcasing the drivers who typically run right up against the wall-Jr, Mikey, Truex, Kasey Kahne, etc.

then do a parallel called Bottom Feeders-showcasing the guys that run on the bottom-Stewart, Mark Martin, Jeff Gordon etc.

Under the Lights-showing cars at speed in a night race-I think it could have a catchier name-itd fit right into the eclipse set.

Ok thats enough lol-2 more things-race used spitter cards! and bring back the pit stopper and lug nut cards!!!!
