My Apology
Last night i made a thread title Michelle Obama is an Ape. I nthe thread was a picture of Michelle Obama as an ape. Some people took offense and thought i was being racist, and i am sorry people thought that.
I may be against Obama for president but it's not because i am racist.
I got the title of the thread and pciture from a site who takes celebrity pictures and turns them into apes.
I thought it was a funny picture and posted it to try and lighten up the mood in here, but obviosuly that has back fired on me.
I Apologize to those offended and all involved will forgive me and believe me when i say i am not racist, and never intended for it to be look at like that.

Are you serious? How do you think people would feel if I posted a picture of McCain in blackface because I thought it was funny?
This has nothing to do with a sense of humor.
The historical ramifications of a picture like that (Obama as an ape) should always be considered. Whether its funny or not is irrelevant and inconsequential; there are so many deep-seeded connotations to things like this. Too often, posts are made simply to rile people up and stir the pot, even though people are fully aware there are evident undertones. Society is overestimated so many times over on issues like racism. It is just not manifested here in the same way racism has been in the past, or in the Third World. Now, racism is more subtle, yet still as detrimental because the effects are subconscious and harder to address, as well as overlooked/hidden.
People need to think more before they act. Just because you have a certain perspective about something you say, does not mean others will interpret it in that way or similarly. It also does not mean a said perspective is one that is acceptable or appropriate for an issue. That would be egocentric.
I do not mean this to be a rant against anyone. Rather, I am ranting against an issue. That is all.

In this politically correct world we seem to have forgotten about the simple things in life like humor,Yes I can see where the thread that prompted techmans apology could be viewed in the wrong light.I also have seen a bunch of other posts that go unaddressed that are far worse,I simply choose not to even bother with the politics and religion section as that seems to be the easiest place for one's comments to be misunderstood.take care Steve

Based on what? Your own criteria?
That was my whole point. People have different interpretations - something you find funny may not be funny to someone else. I cannot fathom how that is anything but a very basic idea.
Its not about being politically correct, its about acknowledging not everyone will interpret the humor (in this case, but it can be anything) in the same manner as you would. It just so happens that someone had a problem with the picture.
Too many people think expression and interpretation are mutually exclusive, when in reality the two are not and should not be.
