Buying Old Boxes
I would like to know what people's experiences have been with buying old boxes.
I was at a card show last week and they had a box of 95-96 Skybox for $12, and I have been working on that set + inserts for a while, so I was considering buying it just to see if i could pull some inserts i needed. But then I decided not to since I thought the cards might all be in poor condition from being in storage so long.
My only experiences with busting old boxes were non-sport cards and I found that some of the cards curved and some were all stuck together. But most cards were fine.
Anyone have any horror stories?

Hmmm...a few months ago I bought a box of 1991-92 Fleer Series 2 because I had only series 1 from that set. Spent $20 on it, and got two and a half complete sets, four Dominique Wilkins inserts and three Dikembe Mutombo inserts. More than half of that cost was on shipping. I felt disappointed that I didn't get any autographs. But I've been spoiled by modern cards that promise one or two autographs per box, unlike those early cards that only give you one autograph every 10 cases or something.

i love buying old boxes:
i got these at a local shop that closed for 15 bucks a piece:
94-95 TSC (2 boxes) - made the set :)
96-97 TSC retail - pulled a kobe rc and two iversons
i also got a box of 97-98 z-force series one not very long ago...didn't get any rcs since the series one didn't have them, but i made two series one sets....i also got some descent inserst including a jordan boss, rodman superboss, and some other descent stuff...
sometimes i just like buying older boxes, mostly from 96-97 and 97-98...it just reminds me of my childhood collecting days :)

Wow, I would've bought a few boxes of that, just to get some KG RCs! lol The only older cards I'd avoid are the ones that have a stick of gum - I've had entire packs of cards gone bad from the sugar in the gum. I bought a box of 1990 Pro Set football about a year ago for $10, and everything was fine in it.
I just remembered this - some of the late 90s cards that are more "shiny" have been stuck together, but it's never enough to damage them IMO.

Man, maybe I should have bought it lol. I think the KG rookie was in series 2 though, this was a series 1 box.

You know, that I don't know. I have one, and it's card number is 233, if that gives any indication.

Yea the rc's are series 2...I broke a few those back when they were new.
Its a hit or miss with buying old boxes tho. I just broke some early 90's skybox that were in great condition...but I also busted some 95-96 topps and all the inserts were stuck together and I had to peel them apart from other cards, and they all ended up being garbage. I guess its how/where you store it.

PPPanthersGM-- I'd say card shows and ebay are the easiest places to find some older stuff. Some websites might also have some too.
