British Navy takes on pirates

If you haven't read much about it, Somali is in complete chaos and pirates rule the seas of the coast. A pirate in Somalia can make thousands of dollars in a single day, in a country where you are lucky to make a single dollar a day.

Well, the British took some action! :) I wish they could have just hung the pirates like the Brits used to a few hundred years back.

Pirates caught redhanded by one of Her Majesty’s warships after trying to hijack a cargo ship off Somalia made the grave mistake of opening fire on two Royal Navy assault craft packed with commandos armed with machineguns and SA80 rifles.

In the ensuing gunfight, two Somali pirates in a Yemeni-registered fishing dhow were killed, and a third pirate, believed to be a Yemeni, suffered injuries and subsequently died. It was the first time the Royal Navy had been engaged in a fatal shoot-out on the high seas in living memory.

By the time the Royal Marines boarded the pirates’ vessel, the enemy had lost the will to fight and surrendered quietly. The Royal Navy described the boarding as “compliant”.

Bout time those pirates got what they deserved.

It makes me proud that such a small nation still has one of the greatest Navy's around. We have always had great pride in our Navy - (just don't mention the episode when some of our sailors were captured by the Iranians) - http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk/6484279.stm - Some of them even started "crying" about the fact that their iPods were taken from them!

The story I heard about the Australian Navy that came across a similar situation as the British crew mentioned above is still one of the best stories I've ever heard.

When confronted by the Iranians, the Australian sailors simply told the Iranians to F**k Off while pointing their guns at them - and it worked!
