1) The economy (I'll let the experts determine how)
2) Get out of Iraq and put more focus on Afghanistan
3) Make sure there was a real movement towards alternative fuels
4) Legalize marijuana, our prison systems are crowded enough
Can't think of any others at the moment. Will edit later if I do.

Legalizing marijuana and prostitution are probably #6 on mine, followed closely by putting a limit on punitive damages in lawsuits.

The one thing that sticks out in my mind is try my hardest to be "middle-wing", not left or right. I'd try to unite the Dem and Rep parties, and add quite a few independents in there. Honestly, if that happened, we'd be smooth sailing for a long, long time.
I know "middle-wing" isnt a very good term, but you get my point.

Meloman, you know they kinda do that in Denver right? The city will pay the homeless to keep the 16th St. Mall area clean (picking up trash, etc). By no means is it glory work but at least they're earning something.
OnePimp - You and I are on the same page so far. Those were in my top 10. I've got 40 down so far.

good post. mine are...
Replace current tax system with the Fair Tax... eliminating the IRS as well as the billions of dollars spent by individuals and companies preparing taxes every year. It would also allow the government to collect taxes on illegal goods and employees that are paid under the table.
Stop bailing out companies that are failing and if it was essential to bail them out I would make these companies alter things such as ceo pay, golden parachutes, stadium naming rights, retreats, private planes, and so on before they qualified for these loans.
Actually if the Fair Tax was put in place there may not be a need for companies to be bailed out.
finally, budget. Stop spending more than you bring in.

1. Institute a plan to leave Iraq in 18 months, bringing some of the troops home and moving some into Afghanistan.
2. Eliminate tax exemption from all churches and religions and charge them all retroactively from the date they got their exemptions. Reinstate the inheritance tax, massively increase the capital gains tax, and institute a policy of mandatory dismantling and seizure of all assets for any individual or corporation caught committing tax fraud.
3. Close down the national bank and nullify the US government's debt to it.
4. Overhaul the educational system, pouring funding into repairing, upgrading, standardizing and modernizing public schools, increasing the salaries for teachers, and providing new textbooks countrywide.
5. Privatize social security, welfare and veterans' benefits, but keep a powerful apparatus of government oversight in place to prevent the providers from defrauding the public.
