paying over BV
There have been several cards recently that I have wanted to pick up, but they have all sold for over the book value of the card. Should i be patient and wait for other ones to be listed or should i bite the bullet and just pay more than the card is worth?

The card is worth what people will pay for it, imo - not what a book states it's worth is.

patience
be patient the market will balance out and he will level out to bk value, when he is overbooking it means a lot of collectors is picking up his cards at above average prices and a month from now he could be trading at low book.note the dip in durants value.

Yeah, just be patient. There's a card I've been trying to get that sells usually for around $20, but one other time it went for $7. However, if it's been a year and it's still there then I'd go for it if I had the funds and it was still selling high.

I will never understand those that follow a price guide religiously.. Maybe back in the day where there was no ebay/completed listings to follow, but now? A guide is just that, a GUIDE.

yeah, i use it as a guide. The problem i was having is the same auto numbered to 50 had sold for 5 and now sold for 20 and another auto of the same player numbered to 50 sold for 4. I dont know if i am being too stingy or if i am justified in waiting.

Are you meaning a Hickson auto went up to $20 after being $5? If so, I'd just wait for a bit - chances are, his prices will come back down, unless he turns into Lebron or something...lol...prices will fluctuate, and it's just finding it when it fits best into your budget.

Don't rely solely on a price guide for your collection. Dealers like to use them to show their "deep" discounts, but in the end you get what you pay for. If it's a low pop item, the prices will certainly fluctuate. If you're shopping for a hot RC from this year's products, I would advise you to wait a year. The sophomores historically drop in price once the next year's RC's and products begin to release unless it's a ringer like Lebron. One collector's opinion.
