For us, we got the internet when we got our first computer, around 1999. I still remember long hours of playing the generic Asteroids on that beast and talking on ICQ for hours.

I think the first time we had any kind of internet was I'm guessing the mid 1990's, probably 1995. I didn't get to use it much though as it was on my sister's computer and she was in college so she was away most of the time.
I got my own computer and internet (AOL) in I think late 1997 when I was in 8th grade.
I had gotten into creating websites too and newsgroups!! I think some of my first card trading and buying was through newsgroups or AOL message boards. I also was big into "e-zines" and I had a Kobe Bryant e-zine for a few years lol.

I can remember as far back as 1996 having 14.4 kbps AOL access at my parents house. Around 8-9 pm it took about 45-1hr to get online because each access # was busy. Finally upgraded to DSL at my parents house maybe 3 years ago, and then I moved out. I now have Comcast Cable Internet here, can't ask for more than that.

Molly - Were you possibly on rec.collecting.sport.basketball? My first trades were made through that group. :)
Rybowski - I remember the 14.4k horrors and getting booted off constantly when I finally did freaking connect..ugh. Also funny is that first family computer had a whopping 212 MB on the hard drive! 212 MB! You can't even run a single program nowadays with that! By 1998, that computer couldn't even load java applets - it would freeze up the computer. Although that might have had something to do with the measly 8 MB of RAM as well.

We got our's in February 2001. I was so facinated by everything..lol. I immediately started creating websites. They were horrible at first. I wish I still have some of them up to show you guys! haha But then once I learned more and more I created an Aaron Carter fansite (dont laugh..ok laugh). It was the hugest website ever. After about a year with that one I got bored of it and quit for a while. I made a few sites a few years later but nothing that big. Now Shayne and I (designed and ran by me, Shayne just helps pay for it
) have one for Jake Owen. (I havent updated since October though!).

Fan sites were at their height from about 1996-2002. After that, they dropped off considerably when people started discovering blogs, MySpace, etc.

When ever I need a good laugh I watch the "That's how I beat Shaq" music video. I would like to bash him more but the whole Duff, Lohan, Carter love triangle is to funny, so I can't hate that much.

What Ash said...
We got our computer/internet in 2001. I was 11 and in the 6th grade. I was so fascinated by it. I LOVED it. I created websites like Ash.. but her's were always better than mine. She has more patience for that kind of stuff. She's also pretty good at making layouts and things like that.. mine are just ok. :)
I couldn't live without my laptop!
