    Raptors fire Sam Mitchell

TORONTO -- The Toronto Raptors have fired coach Sam Mitchell one day after the team absorbed an embarrassing loss at Denver.

Raptors general manager Bryan Colangelo says assistant Jay Triano has been promoted to interim coach. Triano's first game as coach is Friday night at Utah.

This kind of surprises me - yes, they have Bosh, O'Neal and Calderon, among others, but it can, and usually does, take awhile for a team to mesh with a new decent player. I would've figured they would've given him more time to try to get it going.

I agree....seems a little extreme. He's done a solid job since he became the Raptors coach. I don't agree with the firing. I mean, it's not like they're 4-14....they're, what, 8-9?

Yep, 8-9. He was the COY in 06-07. He's had a losing record in his 4 years in Toronto, but he's not doing terrible this year - lots of other teams could stand to fire their coaches before Mitchell...or GMs...*cough*cough* McHale *cough*cough*

Another premature firing. Raptors could be better but how will it help the team to fire him so early in the season? I hope he gets a job elsewhere.
