onepimptiger- yeah i go to myrtle beach near coastal all the time as my grandparents are retired down there. its like a home away from home and is only 5 minutes away from the campus. i would still dorm but i would always have a placvee to go if needed. charleston is a few hours away from there.
My bad...I thought it was in Charleston, not Conway. I'm not nearly as big a fan of Myrtle as I am of Charleston, but still have the beach and plenty of nightlife.

If I were you I would go away for college. Stay close to home, but not too close. I didnt go away for college and now I regret it. I went and stayed the night at a friends house who is going to Baylor and had a blast, and awhile back I went and stayed with a friend at Tech. Its a great experience.

Choose the school which has the best program of what you want to major in/go into, which may or may not necessarily be the best college. I don't know much about those schools, I only recognized a few.
I agree it may be a good experience to get out on your own if you so choose.
I found a good balance of living on my own, but not too far from home. I share an apartment about 5 minutes off of campus at UC Berkeley. I was born and raised at home just south of SF (where I still get my mail because I feel it is safer), and its easy to stop by with the family on a weekend once in a while. I mean, I still get homesick because it is my first semester on my own, but there is always something to do here, on or off campus. After a bit you start to get used to it a little, and it helps home is close so I can visit.
So if you do go off, find a balance. Try not to lose touch with family, but make your life at the same time. Good luck man.
