I would say that it keeps you occupied instead of using time to do bad stuff, you meet new people... stuff like that. That's all I can come up with at the moment.

As a fan you are always looking for a way to get closer to the action. Not everyone can afford courtside tickets or front row seats. And not many everyday fans have access to their favorite athletes. Collecting lets you feel like you are part of the game and to get a little closer to the players that you root for.

I took a speech class last year at my college and we did persusave speeches. You need to be able to appeal to your audience. Releate collecting cards to them. Explain why collecting is a worthwhile hobby by emphasizing three main points. These points could be collecting is something to reduce stress, collecting is a good way to spend time with friends, etc.

if you have some example cards like game used jersey or auto you can pass around that would impress people. there are tons of reasons why collecting is good, the fun of it, the investing part of it, meeting new people, trading partners, going to shows and seeing all kinds of new cards and products you never even knew existed, the chance to meet you idols or stars in person at a show and get their autograph, etc.
