Alternative way to check BV
Hey guys, if you want to quickly check a BV for a card and you dont have beckett online, there is another way. It doesn't have all the BV's but it might help some of you out. Checkoutmycards.com (A SCF affiliate btw) lists BV of cards that ppl are selling. If someone is selling the card you are interested in, it will list the BV and their sale price. Not a bad way to quickly check BV, especially for popular cards. I believe they get the BV from beckett.
BTW, I'm not affiliated with them in any way lol.

Aloha,
i honestly think that ebay is the "new" beckett for BV. For example, if beckett says a card is worth $50.00 BV and on ebay they have a dozen of those cards with buy it now prices of $10.00, whats the "real" BV ebay or beckett? beckett was great in the 80's and 90's but i honestly think what people are paying for cards "currently" on ebay should and is the new BV. ive had people that said"beckett OPG says this card has a BV of $20.00, then i go to ebay and can get the same card for $1.99... just my thoughts and observations on this.

Ebay is only a sale value that is not a correct book value. It is to bad that Ebay has took over and people think that they are the ultimate price guide when they are nothing but sale values.
Thanks for the info that is pretty cool!!!!

yup theres a place for SV and ebay...i look at this too for figuring out how much i can get for an item but BV is helpful for making trades so i thought this info would be useful to some ppl
the site itself is pretty cool too...i like the fact that you can buy cards and flip it and sell it if you want...i started buying cards i need for my sets and pc...waiting to get a small collection before asking for it to be shipped so i can save on shipping...in the mean time i just jacked up the prices for resale lol...win-win situation...if it sells, i make a profit...if it doesnt, i was going to eventually keep it anyways!

true, but if beckett has a card bv of 50 and i can but a dozen for 10.00 each on ebay.why would i trade 50.00 worth of cards when i can buy it on ebay for cheaper? i think the problem is most sellers(and i am also a seller) want to "get what they pay for a card back" so they "use" the whole beckett BV thing and sadly with the economy the way it is, us sellers wont get what we paid for. we have heard it thousands of times, a card is only worth what a person is willing to pay for it and the truth is, that is based on ebay values, not beckett values.ive been colelcting for over 35 years, so trust me ive seen it all in this hobby. thanks for your response.

Elbert

i know what you are saying and i also look at sale values ultimately for trades but for low value items especially, its hard to find SV bc they pretty much dont sell on ebay so BV is a good way to trade
im a set collector myself so i use BV for trading base, inserts, etc. for most cases...in the end if i lose out on a few cents of SV, it doesnt really matter since its low value cards anyways

Ebay is the worst place ever for bv or sv. A member turned me down on a trade because my cards bv was 650 but sold on ebay 3 nights ago for 264. But tonight the same card sold for 470. I know the value is based on what people pay for cards, but theres alot of variables. If you dont know how to list your item, or list it with bad ending times ,during the week or on a holiday. Or simply dont know were to list your card and cards from overseas dont bring as much either. Ebay should only be used as an estimate of what your card could sell for but it could always bring more 3 days later. Thanks

IMO, you are correct that its only worth what a person will pay for, but ebay is not accurate. i work at a card store, and we sell Detroit Tigers stuff for over BV, so they are someone who would rather pay 2x-3x the amount over ebay knowing they could get it there cheaper, but they will pay more for it. also theres lots of vintage, and autos and gu's that people pay more than ebay for, so to say sv is based on ebay prices to me is inaccurate, its almost like beckett, it's a nice "guide" but mot true to the real value.Hidden Content

i dont sell cards so you will probaly hate me for saying this, but i use ebay prices when i buy cards. i have been to card shows and saw a card i liked but bought of ebay for $30 cheaper. but this is only good for cards that are higer on value. i use card shows for smaller priced cards like base that i need.
